I hate having to explain this to the rest of the country in every trump thread, but:

NOBODY IN NYC TAKES TRUMP SERIOUSLY. Not even trump.

His empire is built on name recognition. Even his real estate projects these days aren't really done by him, he just loans his name out. To keep his name recognition, he does all kinds of things just so someone on TV mentions that there is a guy named Trump out there, who is allegedly very successful and has a ton of money (which is somewhat debatable). So then when somone decides to build a gold course or condo in podunkville, or you see a shirt in macy's with his name on it, you think, "Hey, a wealthy and successful guy is involved in this, so it MUST be good".

The politics thing is just him getting up there and talking in whatever way gets a reaction and press time.

Which is funny, because around here, aside from a couple of flagship properties, the trump name is synonymous with tacky.

So really what you are seeing here is trump telling a couple of political friends, "hey, do me a favor, toss my name around, we will get some mentions in a few rags, I can plug whatever your pet issue is, and we all win"

He will never become seriously involved in politics because it will destroy his brand.

Tacky was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the trump hotel in Vegas.  It looks like a giant gold cigarette pack.  The fact that there's no casino in it has to mean something too.

Yeah, his name either means "Tacky" or "Christ, what an asshole".

That being said, he'd win upstate because he's republican enough, and downstate because he's not too republican.

And he seems thin-skinned as hell and can't handle the mildest criticism. I mean, look at the way he dealt with getting ripped at the White House Correspondent's Dinner a couple of years ago. A politician has to be better at dealing with that sort of thing than that.

This tells me a couple things: New York Republicans have no viable candidate for governor. And their opinion of Trump is WAY out of step with what most people think about him. They think he's Arnold Schwarzenegger, while most people think he's Paris Hilton.

There are probably a bunch of good people in either party that should be running but wont because of something dumb they may have done in the past or not wanting to put their family out there, or some other good reason. But the ones that do run seem to have a major AW issue. I think today some of the Duggers will be in Richmond stumping for the republican canidate there.

Trump is what you would technically call a "bloviating, misogynistic, hemorrhoidal neanderthal." He's about fifteen steps too far right for most [moderate] Republicans to even think about.

More than that, he's about as good at business-y stuff as I am at cricket. The man has declared bankruptcy more times than the government has ever shut down--and he managed to bankrupt a casino. If he can bankrupt what is essentially a licence to print money, let's see how good he'll be at running a state government.

Completely separate issue: His combover looks worse than the illustration in this month's mental_floss of the guy who patented it.

It does: because he's bankrupted his casinos in AC more than once, he can't get a Nevada gambling license under any circumstances.

/He no longer has any control over the AC casinos.

Occam tells me that it went a little more like this.

1. Steal all of the money
