Oh, the American Justice System.  Small town comptroller gets 20 years for fraud.  CEOs of Bigs Banks that manipulate interest rates and nearly put the economy in a Depression, nothing.

She probably spent it more responsibly that they will.

IIRC, Dixon got around $20 million when the feds auctioned off her horses, horsey stuff and ranch.

"The city recently settled with a bank and an auditor it accused of not doing enough to expose Crundwell's scheme."

Was trying to figure out how she got away with it so well. Jeebus, that sucks that the auditor couldn't uncover the embezzling right off the bat.

You know, a town with money is a little like the mule with the spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it and danged if he knows how to use it.

Steals 54 million, pays back 40. Prison for 20 years, she makes 700k per year.

What's kind of funny is that she probably could have gotten away with it too if she just lived a normal lifestyle until she retired. (heck, retire early!) She only really had any sort of suspicion leveled at her because she was living so extravagantly. (ranches, horses, expensive vehicles/clothes/houses/vacations)  Heck, she was actually caught because she was on such a long vacation they needed someone to go into her computer and do an urgent task while she was still actively stealing.
If she was in the office that day or just plain old not stealing anymore... jeez. If she just took long weekends, retired after her 25/30 years or whatever then started living that way no one would have noticed, or wouldn't have noticed in time. She was good enough to hide from auditors/banks. 53 MILLION dollars and it wasn't enough.  What an idiot.

abhorrent1: She probably spent it more responsibly that they will.

She used it to buy horses and fancy cars, so I don't think so.

But what gets me is that they are discussing how to spend the settlement money. How about spending it to pay off the towns bills that went unpaid because she was stealing the money instead of paying bills with it?

This situation is out of comptrol.
