Pro tip: dial 993 first, that is the haggard husband number, tell them your plan and they will play along but no charges will be filed.

Some years back I was working for this one guy as a carpenter.  One day he didn't show up for work and his wife kept calling me wanting to know if I had talked to him.  I had not and no one I knew did.  We were starting to get a bit twitchy about pay day after about the 3rd day.

Then I get a call from his wife on the 4th day and she says that he came back home.  The reason he couldn't call her or any of us was that he was doing under cover work for one of the local police depts. in a major cocaine bust.

Of course after that every time he came around, we would ask him when his next big under cover job was coming up.  He knew we were on to him.... what is sad that is wife fell for it hook line and sinker.

Criminal gangs and the police have some rules, and a few have a conscience. You may have a chance at mercy.

Wives? No so much.

What husband hasn't done this???

I've found that faking amnesia can accomplish a similar goal and is even kind of fun. Paying off the kids to play along can get expenive after a whole, though.

When I was married to my first wife, I thought about something like this.

In the end, I discovered simply leaving and filing for divorce was easier.

Got your husband, send the money understand?
Or else we'll send his head home in a jar.
P.S. Sorry about the car.
