Yeah, great idea - someone gets into debt and you just pay it off for them. I'm sure they won't ever get into debt again and will learn loads from that experience.
Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, and say "look, I'm sorry - I know I have $8 trillion dollars, but I don't think I would be doing the right thing by you to pay your $3 trillion debt. Now, I don't mind going over your spending habits with you and perhaps trying to find some places where we can avoid spending..."
