Hopefully this means more people in middle age sharing the world I already live in, leading to demand for quieter technology.  I'm seeing more and more products and locations simply not regard high-frequency noise pollution as a design consideration.  They figure pretty much anyone over 30 has wilfully destroyed their hearing and they're usually right.

There is terrible dubstep. There is also some awesome dubstep. Looks like someone needs to realize that genre does not determine quality.

I'll be impressed when they find a cure for tinnitus, which is not the same kind of hearing impediment. I've been to maybe 5 rock concerts in my whole life and have done all I can to prevent hearing loss due to noise, but have tinnitus anyway. It appears to run in the family.  I have a sibling who got it earlier than me and he's been to precisely 0 rock concerts in his life.

Still, epic win. I don't care how people lose their hearing. Being young and liking loud music is not a character flaw. It's just something people do.

This. Skrillex does not represent the genre very well.

I've found Phutureprimitive and Celldweller to worth listening to. Also the the breakdown during 'Raise Your Weapon' (the album version) is a masterpiece of dirty dubstep style.

It's like any genre: a few are real stand-outs and most of it is crap.

Hope this works and is approved soon.
Turning your face away from the person you are speaking to so you can point your "good" ear at them is not conducive to a good conversation.

In a thread about hearing loss, I feel I need to plug my ACS Pro custom earplugs. Yes they're expensive, but you only have two ears, and they last 5+ years. I got mine a few years ago, when I could no longer rationalize going to concerts without earplugs. Normal foam plugs both hurt my ears, and give off a terrible muffled sound. With these, the volume is just lowered - not distorted.

One of the very few intelligent things I've ever done was to invest in proper ear protection.  5,000+ shows later, and my hearing is still excellent.  Other parts of me, not so much.

Sinbox: American Decency Association: Amon Tobin

I've heard (about) this. Haven't had the...pleasure?

hah! i dint know it was widely reported.

it was confronting to say the least, and combined with the visuals i'd have to say it was thrilling

As someone who has tinnitus and minor hearing loss from various loud noises, I find this great news.  I might be able to sleep without a fan or some other white noise in the room.  Wouldn't that be amazing.

I wish I could say my hearing loss came from doing something excessively fun, like years of clubbing and loud music, except I have attended very few concerts without wearing earplugs and never liked my music loud.  Mostly it came from random environmental stuff, ear infections, and being a drummer.  Yes, I wore ear protection while drumming.  You can do everything right and still lose parts of your hearing.

I wonder how effective this is on age-based hearing loss and delayed hearing loss.  My dad spent time in the Marines during Vietnam, and about 30 years later it started catching up with him.  Now his hearing is substantially impacted.
