bjorky: I am still dumbfounded that people will pay $300 for "Beats by Dre" headphones when that kind of money or less would buy some real audiophile-grade Sennheiser headphones or a model comparable to the Sony MDRV700DJ (for less than half the Beats by Dre price)

You're buying the name and the appeal.  Just like the iphone white earbuds, these red ones are pretty much there to show off.  My wife's grandfather just passed away, and he couldn't hear for shiat.  When we were going through his stuff he had a brand new pair of Beats be Dre noise canceling headphones.  They are definitely very nice, but for $200, I re-sold em on Craigslist and replaced em with some BOSE ones instead.  I do not need that much base when 80% of what I listen to is podcasts and fantasy football while I'm at work.  And if I'm in my car?  There's a stereo for that.  Just don't need em.

But do they look cool? No.

//Seriously though I'm with you on that one.

'Cool' is subjective.  I tried to get a good pair of ear buds that I would rig into a set of construction noise reduction head sets.  it just didnt work well enough for regular use.  i hate ear buds cuz they fall out of my ears too easily (i have small ears).  i would LOVE to retro fit some awesome full ear cans into this.  i would just want to paint the color some cool design.  but i'd pay $300 if this was the entire package.  it would be my new bike helmet, haha.

why, yes, super-dorky is what i find 'cool'.

These right here --->  http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/headphones/audio_head p hones/in_ear_headphones/index.jsp

I've used these for 3 years.  They lasted forever.  And this was with daily use on a construction site.  That white rubber you see?  It fits inside your ear gently, and the package comes with 3 other pair of them from small to large that you can replace on it very easily so that it'll fit any ear.  I have never had them fall out, ever...and that one or 2 times where you inevitably get it caught on something and it tugs at you, it still didn't come out.  Greatest buds I've ever used.

Just picked up some Sennheiser HD558s. A little weaker for EDM than I'd like, but they're so damn good at everything else that it's a non-issue. They sound glorious.

/plus you can turn them into basically HD598s by removing a piece of foam tape inside the ear cup

Hwve senn's as well and love them.
TfA states that aliexpress.com is a knockoff site except they usually sell the unbranded versions of the product which  is the exact same thing without the little stickers and packaging

washington-babylon: endmile: washington-babylon: What I use while gaming or just listening to music has gotten me kicked from CoD matches for "Cheating".

/I have never cheated, in a multi match of any kind.
//I can hear where people are, INCLUDING AROUND CORNERS AND BEHIND ME.
///The headset also sounds fantastic for music.

Hmmm. Interesting. Really worth it?

It is, just be prepared to be kicked from a few servers for cheating when you spin around and nail the guy trying to knife from behind you or when you shoot a guy through a wall or corner. The best part about the headset though, is that it has an integrated sound card so you get awesome audio even on crappy desktops and laptops.

I think I may have to get a pair. I need all the advantage I can get.

A simple test to tell if your headphones suck...

Does target sell them?

I love my $10 Sentry headphones.

Loud as hell at every frequency, comfy, matches my chair and my guitar, and they've got enough bass to rattle themselves directly off of your head.

Grados are fantastic for home use, sitting on the shag carpet in front of the phonograph and studying the LP artwork. But their bulk and open-ear design make them a poor choice for going out in public.

The $40 Sony earbuds with the silicone inserts are a fine choice for when you're on the go--or if you prefer to go 1983 style, Koss still makes PortaPros and they're still excellent.

Ginnungagap42: RickRR: You can get the low end Grado headphones for under $100. Probably better than anything else that will be mentioned in this thread.

/ 10 year old SR60s still sound great!
// Newer PS500s sound even better!

I have the 225s. They're stunning.
I mean, not as stunning as the RS2s and GS1000s I tried on at the store, but I'm not made of money. :)

Skullcandy $10 buds work well for me. Music is mostly to drown out the background noise on the train. I'm usually reading, not listening to music.

I won't say mine are as good as yours; I've heard good music on good systems and can appreciate it. Just not what I spend my limited cash on.
