I hate to be a wet blanket here, but she's 76 years old.

Considering how much such an operation taxes one's body at that age, she will be lucky to last 2 years after that operation, and I'm being WAY generous with that guess.

My father had to say goodbye to his wife, (my Mom) of 62 years last week, and despite the fact that they were pretty much joined at the hip since they were 12 years old, they both agreed that throwing every cent the family has at the problem would have purchased another 3 months of pain for her at best.

I was her primary caregiver through the last 6 months of hospice, and WOW she was in want of NOTHING.
I dare say it was some of the happiest days of her life.
The harvest as it were.

That same donated kidney was probably desperately needed by someone much much younger that could use it for another 50 years, instead of 6 months.

That kind of donor doesn't deserve the HERO tag, he deserves the DUMBASS tag, and the husband that asked for it should be branded as being very selfish.

I_Am_Weasel: Damnit.

Trying to think of a kidney related pun, but I can't and it's pissing me off.

I think you'll find that a good kidney pun is just a stone's throw away.

I'm happy for them and all, but I'm telling you, I'm never going in that Candy Mountain Cave again.
