(NewsOK)   You're a junior high baseball coach and you don't like how your kids are playing. Do you: A) make them stay late practicing fundamentals; B) threaten to bench them during a game; or C) throw baseballs at them?   ( divider line

You are ball player. Coach throws a ball at it, your job is to CATCH IT. If you fail to catch it that means you need to have MORE balls thrown at you until you learn how to catch a ball. What exactly is the problem here?

Seriously though, in Jr. High (Catholic school, only one class per grade) our principal would come down to the gym and play dodge ball with us every once in a while. It wasn't until we were all well into High School that we realized exactly why he did so.... His visits always came about a week after one of us boys did something particularly bad. Clearly he didn't view detention as being sufficient, so he would come down and bean the offender a few times as hard as he could with a dodge ball. He would hit all of us so it wasn't obvious, but he would hit the bad kid particularly hard. He never hit the face though, body only. Again, none of this seems so bad, and really wouldn't seem so if you saw him since he wasn't particularly big, but it actually was pretty bad.... You see, he was only in his mid 30's and used to be a pitcher in the minor leagues, so those dodge balls were coming from a 85+mph capable arm.

I mean, part of baseball practice IS having baseballs thrown at you, so what's the harm?
