This text is now purple: juvandy: PunGent: Is "testosterone-fueled bull sharks" just purple prose, or is there something to that?

Complete BS. In fact, it could very well be the opposite. Female sharks in general give birth in inshore areas where there is more structure to allow offspring to hide from other predators (like bigger sharks). Bull sharks in particular take this to the next level and often give birth upstream in estuaries, even in 100% fresh water. Bull sharks are also known to go FAR upstream in rivers. There are records in the Mississippi up to Illinois/St. Louis, and there are also records, if not established populations, in the Zambezi River in Africa, the Ganges River, the Amazon, Lake Nicaragua, the Brisbane River and Lake Macquarie in Australia, etc. Bull sharks are also thought to be responsible for strings of inshore attacks in New Jersey in the early 1900s.

Bottom line- bull sharks enter freshwater all the time, to forage, give birth, etc. Testosterone probably has little to do with it.

Farther than that. Sharks have been documented in Minnesota, and there was a report in 1955 of an attack in Lake Michigan, off a Chicago beach.

You think THAT'S far?  Well, I once found one in the middle of Canada living in a shoebox in the middle of the road.

"it was a surprise coming face-to-face with two big sharks.  Lots of excitement".   So we promptly killed them.
