Advice to guys in their 20's.  At least see a current picture of her mother, she will look like that in a few years, you have been warned.

Alternately, I understand you often get to hear from her parents at the sentencing.

A few minutes before her father tells her you're not good enough for her.

For those of you not yet married, here's a word of advice.  Don't.

/then you don't need to meet the in-laws.

Met my husband's mom on our FIRST DATE (and no, we weren't in high school at the time - we were in our early 20's).

He didn't have his own car at the time, so he had borrowed his mom's car to take me out on the understanding that he would pick her up after her shift at work ended (at midnight).

We were just going out for dinner so he assumed the date would be over by then, but we went back to his place after, it was going so well and we were having such a good time, he levelled with me at about 11:30 and said we could either cut the date short so he could go pick up his mom or I could come with him and we'd continue our evening after giving her her car back.

It says something about how much I enjoyed his company that I actually chose option B and we both went to pick up his mother then carried on with our evening!

Met his dad about a month in, and hubby met my parents around then too. We progressed pretty fast though (moved in together after just 3 months).

And that was over 10 years ago and we're still together (and no, despite this story, he is not a momma's boy - he just really needed a vehicle that night!).

After the first time we dry-humped, we thought it was maybe about time.

Quackadam: Every time I met the parents, if her Mother liked me, it was the death nail of the relationship. So now I try not to.

Knell. It's called a death knell. It literally means ringing churchbells to announce a death.

That would be a death nail.

For the guy, You meet her parents when she wants to get serious. For the girl, you meet his parents when he needs to borrow something.

The Funerals, and never in-between. I can't stand the thought of subjugating someone to my family and I'd expect them to reciprocate in kind.

As soon as possible.  Parents are an excellent indicator of you SO's future self.  If their parents are train wrecks, it's asses & elbows time.

Actually, if the girl is attractive sometimes I get curious and ask to meet her mom to see what she would look like when she gets old.

Never, because even mentioning them to Mom and Dad is a jinx.
