The best part is, in about 14 years, she can bang her kid too.

Daedalus27: People should be upset about the double standard in justice.

Oh please, half the men of Fark are why the double standard exists.

The double standard exists because of sexism.  Not because "men are evil" but because "men are strong and women are helpless / victims / weak".

By definition teenage girls can't want, pursue, or enjoy sex so it must have been a manipulative abusive situation and therefore the man is bad, bad, bad.  By definition teenage boys pursue sex to the point of obsession, so who cares if they banged an old lady?  Men can't be raped because that's something that happens to women and you wouldn't want to be a pussy, would you?  Only girls get upset about sex.  Man up.

So despite what your instinct says, there will stop being a double standard in sentencing when misogyny stops.

/So, no time soon, then
//Feminism, it's good for men, too!

Speaker2Animals: Speaking of lax usage standards, what exactly is the difference between irregardless and regardless, and why use the former?

Use "irregardless" when you want to convey a certain level of cromulence.

barefoot in the head: JosephFinn: Speaker2Animals: They? It was more than one teacher?

They.  As in the gender neutral singular pronoun that's been in use for 500 years.

They is never singular. Subby just wanted to withhold the sex of the perpetrator. There is no elegant way to do that but they is still not singular.

I came here to compliment Subby on withholding the gender of the perpetrator.  I thought it was elegantly done.  As for the Singular "They" there is a Wikipedia page on that issue.  Once again the English language defies the stricter grammarians, irregardless of their feelings on the matter.
Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, had faced 41 felony counts of sex crimes with three boys she taught.

I get the feeling that the case was airtight, as was the teacher at one point.

As long as women are not held accountable like children, they deserve the same rights as children.

She may have only been sentenced to a year, but subby conveniently left out this part:

In addition to jail, Whitehurst... must undergo counseling.

R.A.Danny: Marcus Aurelius: This is what I like to call a victimless crime.

That's the wrong way to think.

I tell myself that all the time.

I was a 13 year old boy once.  I'd have sacrificed my left nut to boff a few of my teachers back in the day.
