Full clip of the event from the Globe website.  (BTW subby, that was the phone he destroyed, not the wall.)

Just another ump who wants to be on SportsCenter.  Glad they at least were good enough not to mention his name.

\and I'd bet you 99% of the reasoning behind that strike was him stepping out and insulting his honor or some such shiat

"The funny thing is he wanted to act like it was the right call."

That call was the baseball equivalent of traveling - that pitch was a strike but no one ever calls it. If pitchers actually got to pitch up to the letters and get calls, baseball games would be a lot shorter and you wouldn't need all these relievers.

"I don't play that."

You also don't play a position, or pitch...you really don't play much of anything.

"I hit."

Not in this game, you didn't - you took two walks and tried to take another on this one without so much as staying in the box for the pitch to cross the plate.

"You're not going to take my at-bats away."

Actually, he (and your ineptness on the two ensuing pitches) GAVE you an at-bat - you seemed perfectly happy to give up an at-bat by walking away from pitch four. And you gave away two at-bats earlier on walks, too.

Rule 6.02(b) Comment: The batter leaves the batter's box at the risk of having a strike delivered and called, unless he requests the umpire to call "Time." The batter is not at liberty to step in and out of the batter's box at will.

It was a strike, regardless of where the pitch was. Otriz is a a roided-out ass/

Did Ortiz ever find the Real Juicer like he said he was going to?

And does anyone actually believe he is not roided up to his gills?

Maybe the umpire took umbrage that Ortiz started walking to first base before the ball even reached the plate or maybe it was a strike. Without the batter's stance to compare the pitch to, how is the umpire supposed to call it?

Thread jack coming up. Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd they still use landlines? You would think that cellphone companies would jump at the bit to sponsor the phones.
