Mentat: I haven't received any spam in my promotions tab. I don't even get notices on my phone for it.
Wellon Dowd: Google is tuning into Microsoft. We know what you want and how you want it.
Piizzadude: The only difference is they are predicting, not telling
jazz710: It stole my garbage bill and put it into promotions. Got rid of the tabs ASAP.
ampoliros: The tabs started stealing legit mail that should have been in the inbox proper (receipts and notifications for online purchases). They got turned off immediately; they will not be turned back on.
skozlaw: promotions tab in particular stole two of my emails in the last 12 hours - an appointment reminder and a trouble ticket response - so I didn't notice them until just now when it occurred to me to check that tab.
Bathia_Mapes: I got rid of the tabs immediately.
entropic_existence: You can drag and drop the mis-sorted (not "stolen") email to the proper tab. It then automatically will make sure all email from that sender goes to that tab from now on. And when you log in to gmail the tabs tell you how many unread emails are in there.
Flying Code Monkey: Gmail lost me some number of months ago. They've turned the UI into too awful a mess. This was just one good reason to never go back.
entropic_existence: You can drag and drop the mis-sorted (not "stolen") email to the proper tab.
Stone Meadow: Hmm, just opened my GMail account (from Metro in Win 8) and no Promotions tab.
Edymnion: ArcadianRefugee:I'll decide what categories/labels my mail should be, thankyouverymuch. I don't need Google trying to make those decisions for me.Uh, that is exactly what we've been using gmail for for years now. It automatically filters things into different folders based on what it thinks is the correct answer. Its just that before now the only folder it sorted into was marked "Spam". Now you have the ability to make your own tabs, and teach it to sort things into those tabs for you automatically? Thats freaking awesome.Make a tab for your girlfriend/wife, so when you get something from her it doesn't get lost in the clutter. Make a tab for for ebay correspondance, or one for password notifications. This is a seriously good thing.
potterydove: My promotions tab disappeared, but it is still checked. Now I don't get ads at all.BRILLIANT
Edymnion: Wow, really people?Google takes away the ads that are always there, puts them on a back tab with all the other quasi-spam where you never see it unless you specifically go looking for it, and this UPSETS YOU?What the hell is wrong with you people?
jack21221: Edymnion: Wow, really people?Google takes away the ads that are always there, puts them on a back tab with all the other quasi-spam where you never see it unless you specifically go looking for it, and this UPSETS YOU?What the hell is wrong with you people? This would only upset me if they didn't give me the option of not using tabs. They gave me the option to turn it off, so it's cool. But, I must say, I have no idea what you're talking about. What ads are "always there?" I don't know what you mean.
Shrugging Atlas: Mentat: I haven't received any spam in my promotions tab. I don't even get notices on my phone for it.Nor have I.And even if they did....it's a free service and they are putting the spam in a folder all but designated as such. Anyone biatching about it needs to stfu.
