Raccoons are really REALLY cute, and can be domesticated in that they will get along with humans very lovingly, but they will fark up your house every chance they get. They're really smart and inquisitive and will break out of just about ay cage you can put them in and then you will need a new house and new stuff inside of it.

A bored raccoon is a destructive raccoon. Get them fixed, and give them unrestricted access to things like dexterity toys that you would buy for a toddler and they will stay happy.

Just remember that a shunned raccoon is a damned angry raccoon, and they are smart enough to know how to take revenge properly.

/Blew off "play with me" tugs on my pants legs by one of our raccoons one time too many [while I was playing UT2K4], and she waited for me to go to sleep, then climbed up on the desk and pissed in/on the laptop. Solved the problem of me ignoring her for the computer.

When we were kids, we asked our dad to get us a raccoon for a pet.  He flat out said no chance EVER.  It turned out that when he was a teenager he had a pet raccoon and it wreaked havoc upon the entire household.  Nothing was safe from its little paws if it set its mind to it.

This however, is Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, dealing with a raccoon infestation.

I have come toe to toe with MANY and some very large racoons. i love animals more than most, but i have never considered domesticating one of those varmints. they are almost as dexterous with their hands as we are with ours...which reminds me...time for dexter..weeeeeee

The word for that is "tamed", not "domesticated". Racoons, no matter how tame, remain wild animals. They can live with humans, they can thrive with humans, but they are  not domestic animals. It's an important distinction; a lot of people confuse "tame" with "domesticated" and the result often harms the human or the animal, or both.

The raccoon was fighting his small dog. He heard the noise and ran down, saved the dog by grabbing the raccoon and throwing it. It was a reaction. He's not just tossin' coons for kicks.

And even if he was, wild animal is wild. Sure, there are instances of domesticated wild animals. They are not the norm.
