Additionally, the idea of a god who would just one day decide to up and murder every living thing on the planet seems incredibly horrific to me, but I guess fundamentalists don't have a problem loving that kind of deity.

That's your only issue with the flood? How about the fact that there isn't enough water on the planet to make such a thing happen. There isn't enough moisture in the atmosphere to raise the oceans by 2 inches let alone hundreds to thousands of feet.

Old enough to know better: Since there are so many glaciers on the mountain, any large object like a huge boat would have been swept down the mountainside long before now.

Also since the mountain is so steep and treacherous it begs the question of how some of the more center-of-balance-challenged animals made it down in one piece...

The God of the Old Testement is constantly demanding people do things (build a temple, take your son to the top of a mountain and kill him, build an ark) to prove their faith in him. It's pretty messed up, and colors Judaism in an odd way.

So this supposed landing site is so inaccessible that multiple expeditions with modern equipment can't get to it. Yet, two sloths not only got down from the mountain but proceeded to walk
all the way to South America. There's the flaw in this whole thing that gets to me.

The question I have isn't where the water came from, but where it went. Maybe however many years ago it supposedly happened there WAS more moisture in the air, but where the fark did the water all go, and all at once? It didn't take 4 or 5 centuries for Noah to be able to start repopulating the world, so it happened fast.

In other words, it's all a morality play and total bullshiat.

So not only are we supposed to believe that he built a giant boat that would hold a breeding pair of every single creature on the planet, but he built cages as well? I didn't believe the story when I just theought they were compartments that were a part of the ark itself. I don't see him handcrafting 10 gazillion cages as well...

That's another thing I don't get about the whole Noah's Ark myth: why have Noah make the ark when God can just snap his fingers and BLAM! Instant ark! Heck, why even flood the Earth in the first place? God could have saved a lot of time and effort by smiting all the wicked instead. Seems a lot better than waiting for an old man to make an ark that has enough room for his family, two of every animal on Earth, food and potable water for every person and animal, and still have space to put away the piles upon piles of feces being produced.

if she was doing "real" research on this, she would point out that the story comes from Pre Hebrew myths and go back as far as she can to earlier civilizations to look at their great flood myths. or she can be an Ultra Orthodox Christian and go wandering around in the Anatolian region trying to prove that no one had mythology prior to the Jews.

Well if it was 5.3MYA definitely not. Anatomically modern humans go back to, what close to 200,000 years tops? I'm just speculating, I think that most myths are based on at least some truths, and there have been many catastrophic events in human history that surely could have been seen as religious omens in their time, enough to spin a tale from to pass down through the generations.

Or maybe most civilizations were built near water and at some point in all their histories there was a flood of some sort. Or maybe a drunk gathered two of every creature on the planet, even those we haven't even discovered yet and got them to fark on a boat because God wanted a do-over. It could go either way.
