TheAbstractor: Whoever wrote the Bible wasn't on drugs.

Hundreds of people wrote it over a period of hundreds of years. If some parts were written under the influence, it very likely wasn't intentional.

make me some tea: I theorize that religion itself is the result of a few good acid trips...

Have you read Ezekiel? Where he describes God coming down with a host of angels or something?

Read it and you realize something: Everything is symmetrical. He keeps going on about the symmetry like "there were 4 creatures, and each creature had 4 faces, and each face had 4 eyes" and it made me realize: Wait.... that's what LSD does.

Psychedelics kaleidescope your vision. You see double and quadruple of everything, and it's all laid out perfectly ordered and symmetrical. It's given a lot of people very profound, spiritual revelations over the years because it looks so perfect.

So the Ezekiel passage, where he could be describing God or aliens or whatever, in reality he probably just ate some mushrooms and sat on a rock for a few hours, staring and giggling at a goat.

If Terence McKenna was right, then psychotropics may be a major factor in our evolution.

New theory is really old.

I first heard about this when I was an undergrad at UCLA in 1983.
