I once used a gas powered leaf blower in my house to get all the dog hair out from underneath the furniture, so I could just vacuum it up. I have wood floors and it worked pretty well.

/I love my golden, but the hair is a constant battle.

I can't exactly answer for lawn mowers, but dryers can be a biatch.  Ours actually caught fire the other day.
The lint trap doesn't do a lot to actually trap all the lint.  Much of it ends up in the body of the dryer.

So, if you have a dryer, keep it clean.  Like, rip off the front cover and vacuum it out kind of clean.
