post0089: Jersey Girl: Good movie all around.

No. Not even close. It's just drowning in every workaholic-single-father-gets-his-priorities-straight cliché that has ever been conceived. It's insultingly trite and treacly, and so predictable, it circles back around to being almost unpredictable because you think, "They couldn't possibly be going there. It's way, way, way too obvious." Not only does the self-centered, single-dad widower realizes at the last moment that his daughter's school talent show is more important than a job interview, but actually dashes back to the 'burbs from Manhattan to join her on stage for a song. The performances are good in the early going - for Affleck and Lopez, it's the anti-"Gigli" up until she dies. But after that it's Grade-A, 140-proof, entirely mechanical garbage.

scottydoesntknow: 1. George Clooney, Batman & Robin (1997)

And they lost me already. Clooney even said he played the character gay.

"Think about it," he explains. "I was in a rubber suit. I had rubber nipples. I could have played him straight but I didn't. I made him gay."

So, what are you saying? George Clooney playing gay isn't acting? His Batman wasn't gay enough? Or that it wasn't gay enough that his performance could be considered good?

Esroc: I've said it before and I'll say it again. Batman & Robin was the most faithful comic book movie adaptation ever filmed. And it deserved a lot more respect for that than it gets.

it is granted a great deal of respect.  we all respect the fact that: if you make a faithful adaptation of a comic book, you will make a terrible movie.

TheZorker: Where's Raul Julia's "But for me it was TUESDAY!" speech?

Maybe he didn't consider Street Fighter a bad enough movie to include?

I've got to give Samuel L. Jackson honorable mention for this. It made sitting through that crappy movie worth it for just that one scene.
