Zulu_as_Kono: Theaetetus: Zulu_as_Kono: Theaetetus: Considering that the ones declaring defeat are cringing from the police and state authorities, not terrorists, it sounds more like you're the asshole. What the f*ck are you trying to say? I'm talking about the losers in this thread who are all "the terrorists have won", and just over-reacting in general. "Police and state authorities". Please. When people say "the terrorists have won", they're referring to the fact that, with a tiny attack, our government will spend millions upon millions of dollars and will strip away our rights in the name of security theater. It's not saying "zomg terrorists" as you apparently think.I'm no fan of security theater, as you rightly call it. But are you saying that increased security at this year's fourth is somehow unreasonable? And are you really saying that having to bring liquids in clear bottles in order to go to the Esplanade is somehow an assault on some fundamental freedom?
enemy of the state: The fact that a few people posting here are saying it's no big deal, or that it's even justified are a good indication that the Big Brother idea of Newspeak and pounding lies into the proles' heads is working pretty well.
Theaetetus: Zulu_as_Kono: TheSelphie: The farkbags are closing major roadways the day BEFORE. The ride home is going to be a disaster tomorrow. What the f*ck would you be doing on the river roads on July 3 anyway? Oh, because you're an idiot, that's why./they close Storrow on the 3rd every yearNot so. They normally close Storrow at 8 AM on the 4th. I know, because I've driven one of the speaker towers down the middle of it at 8:01.
Zulu_as_Kono: Theaetetus: I think it's even worse when the government uses a terrorism "threat" to create a captive market, and I sympathize with the people who will suffer as a result.Yeah, that's exactly what they're doing and why. People "suffering"? Get off your high horse. No one is making these people go to the Esplanade - they are making an informed choice.Do you have such heart-tugging empathy for people who DO go to Fenway, and watch movies at the theater, and participate in other, non-shut-in activities, some of which cost money?
Zulu_as_Kono: enemy of the state: The fact that a few people posting here are saying it's no big deal, or that it's even justified are a good indication that the Big Brother idea of Newspeak and pounding lies into the proles' heads is working pretty well.Yeah, whatever you say, Eric.
koder: In situations like this, provided over-incentive, and never increase security substantially. Give free flights away, bus people in, free beer, whatever it takes... and if it happens again, double down. Eventually the people take care of themselves, and the terrorists never win.
Theaetetus: How did you manage to quote and reply to a post without reading it?
Ivo Shandor: IrateShadow: Can we stop with the liquid bans already? It's a farking stupid security measure that's based on the plot from Die Hard 3.It's also based on Philippine Airlines Flight 434 on which a liquid bomb in a bottle of contact lens solution killed one person and tore a big hole in the airplane. Of course, TSA being the TSA, their liquid ban was not particularly effective at countering this threat.
illegal.tender: I'm not doing any July 4 celebrations this year. Gotten pretty disenchanted with my country since the whole NSA thing."A watched man is not a free man."
The My Little Pony Killer: Wow, it's really really sad that Boston is allowing themselves to remain terrorized.
Zulu_as_Kono: The My Little Pony Killer: The only 'sniveling weenie' in this story is the idiot who decided that a full-on ban on fun would somehow create safety. You're a goddamned moron. The My Little Pony Killer: Once again, the only thing wetting their bed here is the city of Boston. Please try to pay attention before twisting up your panties. We're fine, but thanks for your totally-uninformed concern. The My Little Pony Killer: Right. It's EVERYBODY ELSE who is the stupid. Uh huh.Maybe not everyone, but you, for sure.robbiex0r: I can tell you that on any day, holiday or not, I am much more afraid of running afoul of my police and state authorities than I am of being involved in a terrorist incident.Good for you.Vitamin Pb: Hey, cool! Free cavity searches!Over-react much? Douchebag.
lohphat: Statistics Show You Are NOT Going to Be Killed by Terrorism
TheSelphie: This. I would know, I have to take Storrow on the way to work. They sure as hell do not close it on the 3rd... except for this year. One lane is going to be closed westbound starting at 6am, and the whole thing is going to be shut down by noon. What a clusterfark.
Perpetuous Procrastination: If you're so god damn afraid of dying to a terrorist attack
Perpetuous Procrastination: their ability to go about their normal lives is being neutered by some overreaching authorities
Zulu_as_Kono: Perpetuous Procrastination: If you're so god damn afraid of dying to a terrorist attackDude - I'm totally not afraid of dying in a terrorist attack. You f*cking people are the ones acting terrified. We're cool up here.
Zulu_as_Kono: Perpetuous Procrastination: their ability to go about their normal lives is being neutered by some overreaching authoritiesI mean, seriously. Look at what you wrote.
Perpetuous Procrastination: Sorry, I must have been mistaken when I read direct quotes from the article that detailed Bostonians who aren't particularly thrilled with the changes. I can only assume, then, that while talking out of one side of your ass about others projecting their opinions as gospel, you too are attempting to speak for the general public with your sentiments of freedom and glee.
Perpetuous Procrastination: Yes, just look at it, in all of its truthful glory.
Perpetuous Procrastination: It's apparent you still don't grasp what terrorism is and/or what its goals are.
BitwiseShift: It's a religious holiday. The Feast of St. Overtime.
HaZZard42: FTFA:But she understands why the security has been heightened. "The bottom line is we don't want to be terrorized," said Rioux, 62, of Bolton. "We want to celebrate and embrace our freedom."I don't think you understand what those words mean.
Zulu_as_Kono: TheSelphie: This. I would know, I have to take Storrow on the way to work. They sure as hell do not close it on the 3rd... except for this year. One lane is going to be closed westbound starting at 6am, and the whole thing is going to be shut down by noon. What a clusterfark.See Thaetetus -now this is a guy to have sympathy for, for he will truly suffer. Not enough to take the T. like a reasonable person, but he will suffer.
TheSelphie: I was actually only delayed about 10 minutes this morning. Since work is in Brookline, I need to change trains 3 times, so it literally takes me an hour and a half on the T itself. It actually takes less time even in a traffic jam.
Shahab: I hate to trot out this tired line but the terrorists have won. Crazy restrictions, people staying home, hundreds of armed officers on patrol. They've changed us.
