I'd like all four sides of Tales from Topographic Oceans by Yes to be played. Hey, I'll be dead, I won't have to listen to it.

What about "Idiot Prayer" for the lulz?

If you're in Heaven then you'll forgive me, dear
Because that's what they do up there
If you're in Hell, then what can I say
You probably deserved in anyway
I guess I'm gonna find out any day
For we'll meet again

Wow, that brings back memories. I played that piece with my high school orchestra 30 years ago. Farking traumatized everybody.

Why, out of curiosity?

rickythepenguin: Phil wanted to write a song for him, enter Hunter. As hunter describes it, the words came out damn near fully formed. there's a quote in my memory of hunter saying something like, "the words flew out of my pen" or "the paper stole the words from my pen".

per wiki:

"According to lyricist Hunter, Lesh "wanted a song to sing to his dying father and had composed a piece complete with every vocal nuance but the words. If ever a lyric 'wrote itself,' this did-as fast as the pen would pull."  Lesh practiced the song driving to the nursing home where his father lay with terminal cancer.

"The song also featured two musicians who are not in the band. Dave Torbert played bass, while Lesh played acoustic guitar.  David Nelson plays the lead guitar with a Fender Telecaster equipped with a Parsons/White B-Bender, while Jerry Garcia plays the piano. "

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnno shiat?  I knew "some dude" played bass, but i never knew (or forgot long ago) that that isn't our kid Jerry with those high old lonesome bends and further, didn't know Jerry wsa playing piano on that.  no shiat?

Since I'm being cremated, "Please Don't Bury Me" by John Prine, "The Bird Rock" by Bok, Muir and Trickett, "The Lee Shore" by David Crosby, and "Fiddler's Green" by Marley's Ghost. Before they toss my ashes over the side I want my oldest son to recite this:

"D'ye mind the day when we sailed away an' ran her east by south,
With the howling breeze and the big Horn seas and a roarin' bone in her mouth ? The best hands turned her bucking wheel and dared not look behind and the growling greybeards in our wake, d'ye mind old pal, d'ye mind ? "

rickythepenguin: gfid: IIRC, Lesh wrote this for his father as he was dying of cancer. Good choice.

yeah, the story as i recall was his dad was slowly dying, Phil went to go see him pretty regularly, and then on one of the last visits, Phil wanted to write a song for him, enter Hunter.  As hunter describes it, the words came out damn near fully formed. there's a quote in my memory of hunter saying something like, "the words flew out of my pen" or "the paper stole the words from my pen".

not sure if phil wrote the music for that with or without jerry, think the former.  one of the few "Lesh/Hunter" songs.  neithe rjerry nor weir authored it that we know of.

I just looked it up on Annotated Dead Lyrics:

"Phil Lesh wanted a song to sing to his dying father and had composed a piece complete with every vocal nuance but the words. If ever a lyric 'wrote itself,' this did--as fast as the pen would pull."
