seriously, why does fark scrub links to Yahoo Answers?  Yes, people taste like building material.  ~3000 people who died during the construction of the great wall of china were buried in it, and could therefore be considered building materials themselves.

I went to a health food store with a Les Paul Custom and a talk box, and I said "my sports drink doesn't have any whey!"

then I plugged in and solo'ed for 14 minutes and sang, "I want yooooooouuuuuuuuu / to show me / the whey....."

You're gonna wanna carb up and strengthen your number 3 muscle first, or your joints won't be in balance for that trap work.

The jury is still out on whether or not higher protein consumption negatively affects the kidneys.  I am sure that it can negatively affect some kidneys, but those are usually diseased to begin with.

In other words, if you don't *have* to be to the gym in 26 minutes, don't eat so much protein.

People are dumb and easily led from trend to trend. Hardly new information.

There's an easier solution to "needing protein". Eat vegetarian in a healthy way and you'll get more than you need naturally, without needing whey.

True Protein has cheap stuff that tastes pretty good.  Fudge, cookies and cream, and vanilla especially.  You can have my Surge Recovery when I pry it from your cold dead hands.  Oh wait.

Most bodybuilding nutrition articles state anywhere from 1-2g per lb of bodyweight protein.  It is well known and documented that you need to drink lots of water to help your body process this much protein.  1-2 gal per day.

It depends on what you mean by "higher protein consumption" too.  If you're supposed to have 55g and a single supplement drink is 35g, you can probably overwhelm the normal processing pretty quickly.

It's a complete and oft-repeated canard that excess protien intake damages kidneys, study after study has shown that but it still gets trotted out all the time, mostly by anti-low carb types.

and yeah whey protien powder shakes tend to be a staple food when you go low carb because  you can mix a couple of scoops of it with 8-10 oz of water, get 30G or protiens and 2-4 of carbs  and witht he lower hunger-respons that low carbing causes,  be set until lunch, or even dinner.  Used it all the time back when I lost my first 100lbs.  and while it doesn;t tast like drywall per se (i've camped in a dry lakebed made of gypsum, I know EXACTLY what drywall taste like.   it does have a Distinct flavor that really can;t be fully maskedm but its whey better-tasting than soy proten isolates.

Sort of... high protein diets do accelerate damage in kidneys that already show early signs of disease but it doesn't seem to hurt you if your kidneys are functioning normally.

The real concern over people doing dumb shiat like this is that millions of people in this country already have reduced kidney function and don't know it. You don't really notice significant symptoms until the disease has progressed significantly so many of these people are chowing down on way too much protein and silently accelerating a disease they don't know they have yet.

I had some problems with decreased kidney function (side effect of meds). Both nephrologists (kidney docs) that I saw told me not to worry about limiting dietary protein, it wouldn't help.

Protein powder should be taken as a supplement to real food, not as a replacement. If you try to live off it, your life will get very unpleasant from lack of proper nutrition. Try something like Ensure if you want a meal replacement or have trouble with solid food.

When I did the low carb thing, it was specifically a low-carb High rptoen thing which mean that I kept carbs under 40 a day but was supposed to intake about 0.6/gm of protein per pund of lean body mass I had, that worked out to about 120/gm of protein a day, and I had exactly zero ill effects from it .(For reference purposes an oz of meat or cheese, or 1 large egg has about 7 grams of protien, so you can the math on what I would have been eating if I hadn't cheated with a supplement during the day)

More like pork, actually.  So, with that in mind, the best thing to do is the following:

-Preheat the oven to 450*
-Heat up some olive oil in a pan, add a bit of fresh-crushed garlic
-While that's heating up, dredge your human steak or chops in pan searing flour
-Place the steak/chops into the olive oil, cook on one side for 2 minutes or so.
-While this is cooking, pour in some cooking sherry
-Flip the steak/chop
-As that's cooking away, grate fresh Parmesan cheese over the whole thing
-After cooking two minutes on the other side, pop the whole pan into the oven, bake for about 4 minutes.

Serve over a bed of couscous, with the pan drippings/reduced sauce poured over.  Goes well with steam asparagus and fresh French or Italian bread.

neither Gym Guy nor Naked Guy , are nearly as annoying as the Moron Testosterone Choir- that pack of at least two to three guys who do free weights obessively together and feel the need to grunt/scream on every rep or, if spotting scream "encouragement" at the lifter telling them how weak they are, questioning thier sexualty, etc

This may be kind of a dumb question, but can you guys explain why power lifters don't look like body builders? Besides, the tanning and dehydration, I think it's because muscles need calories, carbs, and maybe even some animal fat (as well as protein) to maximize strength and mass--which kind of works against the posing physique. Is that it? If so, that means bodybuilders could actually be significantly stronger than they actually are if they weren't so obsessed with that they look like? Also, do bodybuilders do a lot of lower weight/higher rep work?
