This is actually a good hire, Mangini is an intelligent guy with a lot of football knowledge. His biggest strength is dissecting game film....

I think the league is going to eventually need to curtail these "consultant" jobs.  Mangini's not exactly trying to do this, but far too often it's a way to let someone skirt the rules about coaching - particularly when it comes to contracts or they're ducking potential probation by the NCAA (See Jim Tressel and Butch Davis).
