that guy did almost 160 mph just pedaling

Just pedalling? Ummm...no.

Treetop1000: It aint easy being a rocket scientist.
Things do blow up with regularity.
I mean, would you sit on top of a device that has a one in 20 chance of exploding every single time you hit the "go" button?

Kerbal Space Program. build your own rockets.
Not a shill for them, it's just a demo.
Spacecraft design, construction, and launch of
solid and chemical rocketry,
realistically rendered.

I wasted all afternoon yesterday trying to make a launcher that could bring 24 full orange fuel tanks into orbit as a mega refueler base.  It was a gigantic failure, I had a great time.

/my record is still 8, friend is doing 16 so I thought I'd go full retard

I wonder what the official land speed record for a penny-farthing is?

apparantly the land speed record for a penny farthing is 23 MPH

Exactly. Pedaling behind a giant circulating wind screen/vortex generator is as artificial as adding rocket power. Both are interesting and fun to read about, but IMO neither bears any resemblance to the human powered bicycle LSR.

He probably could have gone faster if he hadn't been dragging his feet most the way....he had no foot rests on the back axle, instead he just held his feet off the ground.  Inefficient.

How did I miss the (not new) story about the two cute white girls that killed a third?  Link:

You have to have a minimum of 86% hydrogen peroxide if using silver screens in the engine as the catalyst.

About 30 years ago 86-91% was $1000 for a 23 gallon drum (+large drum deposit). That's why a few of us drag racing rocket powered dragsters had to quite and run the  slower jet powered dragsters so we could just feed them with diesel or kerosine and keep putting on exhibitions.

Back in the 70's/80's NHRA's rocket dragster speed limit was 330 mph in 4.2 sec in the quarter.
