While this situation is certainly sad, the ironic tag would also be appropriate here. If the gunmen would have instead went into the brothel and had sex, maybe they'd be lose some of that tension and feel less like killing people. Life is much more pleasant when you're seeking out happiness and fulfillment rather than freaking out about others having values and lifestyles different from your own. This is part of why fundamentalism is an inherently toxic approach to religion, not just as a social problem, but it's even toxic for the followers of fundamentalist doctrine - it just sets you up for a life of misery because it focuses largely on condemning things outside of the rules and builds a view of reality based on negativity.

You might be a terrorist if you have a moral objection to prostitutes but none toward killing them.
You might be a terrorist if you own four women but have no idea what a clitoris is.
You might be a terrorist if your 'university's' dorms are also the donkey stables.
You might be a terrorist if you think an educated woman is a threat.

Wow. TFA says they were "armed gunmen" - the very worst kind of gunmen!

Befuddled: I wonder how many Iraqis, even the shiates, would prefer Saddam's rule over the current mess.

Given the choice, I would always rather be ruled by a "warlord dictator" (someone who wants money and power) than a religious theocracy, or even to live in a democracy where people don't have liberal values, where you get tyranny by the majority.

Persepolis tells this story pretty well. Under the Shah, people who opposed his rule got tortured and brutalised, but actually Joe Sixpack had a pretty good life. Or at least, certainly compared to the religious theocracy that followed.

While its easy for us to point and blame Islam, there is a high likelyhood this was just gangs warring over turf and money.  It isnt much different than early 1900's American gangserism over there at the moment.

If you were with a dead hooker with bullet holes in her... would you play "pick a hole"?

So now it's wrong to impose one's personal religious beliefs on the behavior of others?
