They had a chocolate/lapsang souchong that was divine. But, I like ice cream, so I'm not picky about it.Ice cream is like sex: It makes your tongue numb, and gets you all sticky.

My grandfather and I went to a Amish family style place, where they have groups at a single table, passing items, like a family meal. Dessert was the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had in my life. I asked for the recipe. Guy in the kitchen came out sheepishly, it was the local store brand of ice cream. (Not available in CA, so I don't remember the name but it was a cheap local).Probably Turkey Hill; they're pretty big up in Amish Country. They even have their own little tourist trap guest experience exhibition just over the Susquehanna as you cross into Lancaster County.2) My roommate makes homemade ice cream. Homemade is just the best, unbelievably good. Alton Brown recipes, and an ice cream maker. Though it broke so I need to get a new one now that it's pretty much summer. :DI have an ice maker, and I've made a bunch in the past. I only eat ice cream maybe once every few months now, though, so it hasn't been worth my bother to make more. Thus, it sits unused and gathering dust. :-(

ciberido: Whoever first tried to pass off flavorless bland crap as "vanilla" ice cream should be boiled in a pit of anthrax ripple no-fat frozen milk. Except , you know, it's not frozen anymore because it's BOILING. AAARGH! Just use a flamethrower on them or cut their heart out with a spoon or something. I can't think of a punishment bad enough.
Sunidesus: I've made two of the flavors out of the Humphry Slocombe book (so far) and they were both hits. I've made the prosciutto and the pumpkin five-spice. I had to convince people to try the prosciutto, but everyone liked it after that initial convincing.

Mock26: No, ice cream is not being ruined. If they were ruining ice cream then their concoctions would be the only options available, but that is not the case. If you do not want to have some strange flavor then do not eat it. No one is pointing a gun at your head and telling you to eat it.

Sunidesus: Funny you should mention cinnamon... I was just experimenting with cinnamon ice cream recipes this past weekend. I had two recipes (one for stick cinnamon, one for ground) and I had three kinds of cinnamon (stick and ground "normal" cinnamon, and ground ceylon cinnamon). Fun with ice cream maker! (the stick vs ground recipes tasted the same to me, the ceylon was a bit spicier than the "normal" cinnamon)

Over-sized floppy slices of cardboard. And the California version (escape from NY in SF) is heinous beyond words.I have no idea what he's talking about in relation to hot dogs though, because I like nothing better than a times square dog loaded with onions and deli mustard./shiat, I'm hungry now.
