Igor Jakovsky: NYC has been doing this for years. DHS has its own see something say something campaign. Maybe I'm missing why this is somehow something new? Was it being abused in NY?

Can you report anonymously via the web from your local McDonalds?

Don't suspect a friend.
Report him!

Dear Joint-County Anti-Terrorism Center of Florida,
I heard you say that hobby shops need extra scrutiny, so I kept my eyes open while buying rubber bumpers for my RC car at Hobby Lobby today.  While I was there I noticed some guy came through and bought balsa wood, an HO scale caboose and 10 sheets of reflective mylar.  I wasn't concerned, but then he nonchalantly picked up 2 bottles of superglue as he walked to the register as if it were just some kind of afterthought.  It's obvious that obtaining the glue was his secret plan the whole time.  Does this help?

I wonder how many tip line calls are like, "There's some guy I'm watching and he's eating an ice cream cone, but he's not eating it like an American eats an ice cream cone, and he seems unusually alert to his surroundings. I think you should check him out."

So, how long do you think it will take before the first search warrant is signed and executed based on these reports with no follow up investigation?

/Reasonable suspicion?

The first time the local cops get bored.

How long do you think it will take before someone who's guilty of nothing more than pissing off their neighbor gets shot during a de facto home invasion? Never can be too careful when you're dealing with dangerous tair'ists, you know.

sooner or later some jackass with beef against his neighbor is going to use this to get at that neighbor.

Mugato: Somewhere bin Laden is balls deep in one of 72 virgins laughing his ass off.

Are you sure? (language possibly NSFW but your workplace likely blocks the Onion anyway)

Kibbler: "For iWATCH, people are less likely to be targeted by rumors or malicious accusations."

Step 1.  Set up a program that encourages everyone to inform on everyone else
Step 2. Call it the opposite of what it is

I wonder what all of the patriot moderates will think when the insurance companies push hard to have black boxes installed in every vehicle.  I wonder if the mantra, "If you're not doing anything wrong, what do you have to worry about" will be altered.

It'll be more like "you don't have to deal with that insurance company if they want a black box in your vehicle."  "Free market" über alles and all that.  Never mind that all the others also want that black box in your vehicle.

How could this possibly be abused?

ImpendingCynic: jedikinkoid: Considering they're nominally on opposite poles, why is it that the excesses of corporacracy look so much like the excesses of communism?

Because both are based on keeping the rubes in their place and hoping they won't figure out your scam?

I think the entire question is pointless.  To date in modern history, there has never been an actual technical communist regime.  They are all authoritarian dictatorships where the autocrat sells the concept of communism as an ideal to a poor country, but never follows through on their promises.  Appeal to emotion to get in power and then use the people as your own toilet paper  So as interesting as it is, I don't think we have seen a single actual communist nation in the world.  So from a scientific angle, there are no data points... They have all been ruses, and WW2 was so close to home for the US that now anything that even implies communism is treated as a sacred taboo.  You must say the pledge of allegiance 20x to repent for thy sins....
