Daedalus27: While I am happy that the soldier was reunited with his partner, he is denying the use of the trained dog in an important role so he can go chase squirels and get his belly rubbed. I am a dog lover as much as the next guy, but perhaps he could have visited his companion from time to time and let them continue to be of valuable service to the community in explosive detection. The mean streets of Des Moines are a far cry from Afghanistan so although somewhat risky, it is still preaty cushy duty as far as a bomb sniffing dog goes. Now if it will help his transition to civilian life that is a consideration, but it was not an insignificant expense to train a replacement animal. I am happy for him and the dog, but I can't help but think there would be a better solution available.
