(The Smoking Gun)   There's a reason Charles Ramsey was quick to think he was hearing a "domestic violence" situation next door. He's familiar with that issue   (thesmokinggun.com) divider line

calbert: so Charles Ramsey steps up and does something good and the cockroaches line up to vilify him.

It's like 2012 and George Zimmerman all over again.

Negates any attempt to help those three young ladies then.  Put 'em back in the custody of the crazy rapist until we can find someone suitable to rescue them!

/I bet he masturbates, too

I'd like to suggest, with complete seriousness, that if you're the type of person who, within 2 days of a story like this breaking, has as his main inclination the desire to dig up whatever dirt you can find on the one "hero" who's emerged in the hopes of driving page views to your voyeur website, or if you willingly work for such a person, you should take a long, hard look at your life, have a shot of whisky, and shoot yourself in the head. Please. Do that.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Hoban Washburne: I have a semi-struggle with misanthropy, and I still think humans are way better than that.  I can't imagine if a woman in my neighborhood was screaming for help that I wouldn't at the very least call 911.  That doesn't change the fact that this guy did the right thing.  Nor do his past issues with domestic violence.

First, you're right: this guy's past is completely, totally, and absolutely irrelevant. What he did in this situation is all that matters. That is f*cking all.

/as to the misanthropy, I am old, cynical, and bitter, because in my youth I hoped humans could be more than they appear to be
//I have been far too often disappointed
///once saw 30-40 people standing around watching 3 men try to pull another man out of a burning car and not one tried to help

We, as a culture have conditioned ourselves to eat our hero's

Why?  Because for the most part we like to think of ourselves as better than we are, but at the end of the day, we are all cowards. And when one of us steps up to the bat when it's really really, needed, we will celebrate the act, but then do all we can to break that person back down to our level. because it equalizes us.. we want those faults, because, at the end of the day, we like to think that, if we were put into a similar situation, we also, faults and all, could also act with those Heroics.

Also... Haters gonna hate.

I myself, wake up every morning, turn off my alarm and get a stretch and yawn in and have to start shaking haters off. It's like a job I can't get a break from because haters never take a vacation.

The most unbelievable part of the note is where he puts blame on the victims for getting into his car on the day he abducted them.

HalfOffOffer: Hoban Washburne: mikeray: 80% of Americans would have not wanted to get involved and walked away.

You really think so? Jesus Christ.  I hope you're nowhere close to right.

I remember an episode of a show Michael Moore had on hbo or show time a while back.  He had a person, dressed casually, lie down on a busy sidewalk and pretend to be dead to see how long it would take before someone stopped to help.  It was a very long time.  People just walked past and didn't even look twice.  Don't underestimate the power of people to not give a shiat.

Respecting the human right of homeless people to get some rest is "not giving a shiat?"  Test might have some validity if the guy was asking for help, leaking blood, or making obvious signs of distress.

Hoban Washburne: Also, I'd point to things like the marathon runners in Boston who instantly ran to the hospital to give blood as examples of how good people can be.

Anyone run background checks on them. Probably a bunch of criminals with records in there.

I can't believe the amount of crap the internet is heaping on Ramsey here.

Doesn't anyone remember the words of Kai?

No matter what you've done, you deserve respect. Even if you make mistakes, you lovable. And it doesn't matter your looks, skills, or age, your size or anything - you're worthwhile. No one can ever take that away from you.

innsaei: steerforth: The only thing funnier than Charles in his interviews is the panty-wadders on here going on about how everyone's trying to "bring him down", bro.

There's panty-wadders whining and then there's undue and unnecessary character assassination observed by people looking at a good outcome to a terrible situation, braugh. Did you look into little-dead-kid in Boston and attack his report card lerping late into the night as well, or is that too sensitive for ya?

Lerping? Wat is lerping, precious?
