elvisaintdead: Easy, there. Some things we simply don't consider.
doglover: By attacking ammo depots belonging to people currently accused of unleashing chemical weapons?
Weaver95: again, if that's what gets you thru the day, sure. Dad passed away 4 years ago btw. thanks for noticing.
doglover: Well, honestly, the Israelis are often pricks in the international community. This isn't one of those times though.Every single day it's "Syrian government commits new atrocity. Rebels gain West's support."Israel actually does something to improve the situation in the very real interests of their own national security and you'd think it'd be lauded. But no, it's bad because it's Israel.I don't get the hate.
Tatsuma: "Israel does something = Israel" being a prick to many people. "Israel not doing something = also Israel being a prick" to these people. Pretty much "Israel = Prick" is a constant value.
Tatsuma: elvisaintdead: Easy, there. Some things we simply don't consider. Thus, the raging.doglover: By attacking ammo depots belonging to people currently accused of unleashing chemical weapons?"Israel does something = Israel" being a prick to many people. "Israel not doing something = also Israel being a prick" to these people. Pretty much "Israel = Prick" is a constant value.
Weaver95: well...nothing other than the fact that the rest of the world is going to think Israel is being a prick. Which we already knew. But I guess for some reason Israel felt the need to remind the world that they're ok with beating up on people weaker than themselves for no reason other than they can.
Stone Meadow: Tatsuma: Stone Meadow: October 1973. See Operation Nickel Grass.By the time the first weapons arrived in Israel, the IDF was deep inside Syrian and Egyptian territory, rolling toward Damascus and Cairo and the war had already been won. Not saying it didn't help, but certainly wasn't a factor in Israel's victory, as we'd already won.The first arrivals of those weapons occurred just 8 days into the war, allowing the IDF to push on and drive home a more decisive victory, which led directly to Camp David and 40 years and counting of regional peace that Israel would not have been able to accomplish on its own.
Satanic_Hamster: Why is Tatsuma trolling on the Sabbath?
DAR: it's still raining here in Des Moines and the farmers are pissed about it.
Tatsuma: Weaver95: if that's what gets you through the day, sure. How does it feel to know that I have much more mainstream opinions than you about pretty much everything? That's how far you've gone, weav. We're waiting for you back in the center at some point!/Still love you//Hope your father is doing well too
KIA: I think the world is forgetting a bit of history about the United States. This is the nation that damn near eradicated an indigenous population on the grounds that they weren't putting the land to its' highest and best use. It's the nation that firebombed Dresden causing somewhere around 200,000 civilian casualties, nuked Hiroshima and then nuked Nagasaki - just to prove that the first blast wasn't a fluke. (Yes, I know it was a desperate gamble and know all about the million-casualty figures for an invasion.)
cameroncrazy1984: Perhaps you haven't been paying attention, and instead want to just call people trolls just because they disagree with you.
Tatsuma: spiderpaz: You are aware that those countries have purchased enough American fighter jets over the last few decades that they would pose a serious problem for Israel if not for the fact that they'd be cutting their own throats due to the American backlash right? Or are Israeli's THAT naive and arrogant to think they really don't need the US in order to continue going on like they have? The fact that you think Dubai and Qatar and the EU and Yemen would team up to fight Israel just makes me laugh. I am laughing as I type this. Laughing and shaking my head in disbelief.
cameroncrazy1984: Yes, I suppose bringing reality into an Israel thread can be predictable coming from me.
Tatsuma: Infernalist: Most people generally don't give a good goddamned about people of the Jewish faith. They have enormous problems with the Israeli government.Yeah that's why Jews are the number 2 or 3 victim of Hate Crimes in America right after African-Americans and neck-and-neck with the LGBT community. And in Europe? Well leaders of country talk about purging Jewish influence from their countries, Spanish schoolchildren don't want to sit next to Jews, and Germans still use 'Jew' as an insult.
mark12A: Europeans hate everybody. Including each other. Don't let it give you a complex.I think Jews have a right to be paranoid after the Europeans killed 6 million Jews in an industrial-scale killing spree.Israel has been attacked multiple times by the Arab world, so it's not unreasonable for them to be pro-active in countering emerging threats.Jews are like the smart kids in school. Everybody hates them. Regardless of what they do. They dominate the Nobel Prize list. That really cheeses people off.
Infernalist: It has more to do with what they do rather than what they are. Try to wrap your brain around that.
Tatsuma: Again, most people hate Jews
cameroncrazy1984: Seems to me like there is a third choice, which is called "diplomacy" but which nobody likes because stuff doesn't get blowed up
ThrobblefootSpectre: Obama has two unpleasant choices here. Sit back and do nothing while WMDs are used against people, or start another bombing campaign and seriously piss off Iran.
Tatsuma: blacksho89: ///al jazeera may be the best news organization in the worldYeah they throw the best birthday parties to people who bash the heads of little girls on rocks, and also incredible covers to terrorists.
Tatsuma: HoratioGates: Of course, I'd F them, but I doubt they'd F me. It's just a little piece of skin ladies.Might just be a little skin, but it's covering a lot of fat rolls, though
Mazzic518: Nobody wants a cloud of plague to waft over Tel Aviv.Says you....
SithLord: Time stamps. It was likely after sundown there. Besides, I wasn't on here yesterday much.
Stone Meadow: October 1973. See Operation Nickel Grass.
dr_blasto: Surprised Israel has taken this long to do anything. With the crazy civil war next store, reports of Assad having chemical weapons (before the reports of using them), I figured they'd strike depots early to avoid those weapons getting distributed to the crazies. Also surprised Turkey hasn't done anything either.If/when Assad falls, there's a strong likelihood that the storage facilities get raided by rebels. If that crap falls into the wrong hands, like the crazy fundies instead of the FSA, every border country is at risk.
doyner: Tatsuma: That's what happens when you treat politics with football. Your team or nothing!Oh, the irony.
Hobo Jr.: So am I like just totally a bad person in hoping that there is a huge bloody war?
NewportBarGuy: Agarista: The US has to avoid condemning Israel's "pre-emptive strikes" or else it would look like a hypocrite due to drone use etc in Pakistan.Yeah, after Iraq, we lost that high ground forever.
Agarista: The US has to avoid condemning Israel's "pre-emptive strikes" or else it would look like a hypocrite due to drone use etc in Pakistan.
Mrtraveler01: The National Front are sooo gonna win.
Hollie Maea: Never. You guys are Real Tough Guys (tm)./I was talking about the future, not the past.
Hollie Maea: Israel had better not even dream about starting something that they can't finish without our help./With friends like these, eh Gary?
Weaver95: well...nothing other than the fact that the rest of the world is going to think Israel is being a prick. Which we already knew.
dr_blasto: I would expect that would be because neighboring powers would have incinerated them by now.
dr_blasto: What I would have expected to happen is bunkers being incinerated by somebody by now.
LasersHurt: Well that's... fun. For certain definitions of "fun."
Weaver95: Israel is being a prick
Weaver95: if that's what gets you through the day, sure.
Tatsuma: Weaver95: well...nothing other than the fact that the rest of the world is going to think Israel is being a prick. Which we already knew. But I guess for some reason Israel felt the need to remind the world that they're ok with beating up on people weaker than themselves for no reason other than they can.The rest of the world thinking that Israel are being pricks?Obama came out and not only said that Israel was right to do what it did, but gave carte blanche for many such operations in the future as well. The EU also said that Israel had every right to do what it did, and while Arab States have not reacted openly about this, considering the fact that they are all rooting for Assad to fall and rooting openly for the rebels, I'm sure Jerusalem received many encrypted cables congratulating them and wishing for more. The only people who think Israel was wrong to do that are the furthest extremists on the far fringes.
Tatsuma: Nothing is going to happen.
Tatsuma: These cries of 'Tis the end of the world as we know it!' are ridiculous.
ginandbacon: I'm going back to sleep. Wake me up if anything ends up on Reuters or Al Jazeera.
