I used to be scared, denying who I was
Acting straight but then going out to the gay fish clubs
Dancing with the Marlins making out with the all the Snappers
I'd take a Salmon home and work that Coddle Fin for hours
But now I'm out and I'm free to love what I want
Be it Yellow Fin or Bass or them trout in Vermont
I slapped that Holland ass, make that Grouper butt shake
I'll come to your house and have an orgy in your motherfarkin' fish tank (fish tank, fish tank)

One of the theory floating out there is the estrogen from birth control pills that were flushed down the toilet for the last 70+ years gets in the rivers and lakes waters.

I'm beautiful damn it.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of this fish:

For the non-tropical fish nut, this is Nanochromis Transvestitus, a small cichlid from central Africa.  The pretty one is the female, the dull one the male.  Since in most fish the female is the drab one, this got the name of "transvestite cichlid".  I don't know why this one in particular got the name, since this color patterning is common for cichlids in this genus.  If you have ever kept a Kribensis cichlid, they are in the same family.

Oh yeah, and where are the "I don't eat tofu, it'll give me MOOBS!!  Estrogen in food BAD!!  I eat BEEF cause I'm MANLY!!" chest-thumpers??

Most of the contraceptive ills end up unmetwblized as it exits the body via urination and defacation. Our waste treatment was not designed for pharmaceuticals and hence our excessive birth control use has already Ben dictly linked to genetic anomalies in lower species in waterways near treatment plant effluent.
European equivalent of the EPA has passed laws requiring pharmaceutical destruction in waste water treatment by 2015. America usually doesn't mind polluting so much, so who knows if that will ever happen.

Was the "Obvious" tag unavailble, or did an endocrine disruptor turn in into "Strange"?

Reports like this one have been around for decades now, but here in good ol' 'Murica people embrace the bizarre - and as far as I'm concerned, dangerous - notion that human activity could not possibly have any detrimental effect on the environment.  Every time I see a story about environmental damage labelled as "Strange" I grimace at the thought that even people who regularly follow the news still think that stories like this are the exception rather than the rule.

Don't you mean hermaphrodite?

Ah, this brings back memories.

Supervisor: Are you done the necropsy?
Me: Yes.
Supervisor: Is it a male or female?
Me: I don't know.
Supervisor: What do you mean you don't know?
Me: I found equal amounts of eggs and gonadal tissue.

Color me skeptical.  (Skeptical Green, Pantone number no longer available)  How is a fish going to moisturize underwater?   No, seriously, how?

GeneralJim: How is a fish going to moisturize underwater?   No, seriously, how?

By doing, you know, nothing. Or anything.

FTFA: "In the Shenandoah River, researchers investigating recurring fish kills found something in the polluted waters had feminized 80 to 100 percent of the male smallmouth bass, causing them to produce immature eggs in their testes."

Note that this is not the same thing as gay and/or transsexual.

By the way, why aren't wild endocrine disruptors causing fewer human births? Are stupid people immune to these chemicals?

You are worried about metrosexual fish?  Open your eyes!  Every time I turn around some guy becomes a woman.  It's like the Monty Python skit where all the men turn into Scotsman.  But, actually, the transsexuals are, for the most part, way better than the average woman.  This definitely doesn't bode well for Cuckold Man living in feminized nation.

Better at what? Or for what?
2013-05-06 05:16:50 AM
Naturally, no one will get around to doing anything about this for around 30 years, and then they'll spend at least 10 years squabbling with the businesses who use or produce the chemicals then another 5 years writing the bills needed to restrict the stuff and by the time the law goes into effect, we'll have an entire generation of dumb asses born who have been affected by the krap.

Maybe we already have the beginnings, judging by the sheer stupidity and violence which seems to proliferate more than ever before. Such as the Sex Offender Laws. Companies allowed to buy and sell energy. (Enron.) People suing everyone for any reason and politicians passing laws restricting parents from parenting their kids.
