That's funny, I can see it just fine, except some asshole put a big "LET US RUN RANDOM CODE ON YOUR MACHINE SO WE CAN TRACK WHERE YOU GO" warning over it.

Aren't Disney worth billions? Pay up you cheap f*cks. A good chunk of that would probably have to go to medical bills. Also once you suffer a fall like that even after recuperating you're likely never to be quite right again limiting your work options. Dude might have to shift to less physical work which means he'll probably need a year or two to upgrade his schooling.

Fookin' job creators, man.

wildcardjack: Wasn't this the contractor's fault for failing to establish his own rigging?

Or is it cheaper to pay the fine than to have someone reveal the nationality of the person the contractor was using to do the cleaning? I mean, this kind of work really sounds like what you'd have specially trained staff to do, that's expensive and if Disney was caught directly employing illegals then they'd be subject to huge fines. So outsource to some drinking buddy to hire the illegals.

It's got nothing to do with "Disney hiring illegals." There are safety procedures that need to be followed, and when I was there, they were followed pretty much to the letter. So if the contractor who was hired in to do the work failed to set up proper rigging, then it's on him, regardless of the green-card status of his workers. Legal workers are not any safer than illegal workers if some fool decides to unclip his harness because it's faster to walk over to the edge to dump a bucket than to tediously but safely climb all the way back up to the ladder.

There are plenty of illegals, as you say, who will meticulously obey regulations because they like to live, and plenty of 110% native-born Americans who will cut corners because they want to work seven hours and get paid for eight; and the ones who do are the ones who fall 60 feet from the roof of Space Mountain. And they shouldn't be allowed to benefit from their stupidity, imo, just because Disney has deep pockets.

I'm curious about that as well, from what I've seen one of the unwritten rules of rigging is often "I will only bother to do this properly when the owner of the company or OSHA is lurking around."  I see they fined the contracting company but they also went after Disney for some reason.  Maybe Disney's facilities management had been looking the other way when the cleaning crew half assed their safety measures.

Holy christ I fail at reading. That money's going to the state. Not the dude. I blame having to read through the stupid AZCentral javascript warning and having just woke up. Pay the dude. Not the politicians.

Louisiana_Sitar_Club: Disney has precisely zero qualms about throwing a couple hundred thousand at a problem to make it go away.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised to hear they were being dicks about such a small amount. Hell, wouldn't their insurance cover something like that?
