ontariolightning: BC. The armpit of Canada where the hippies, stoners, drunks, prostitutes all gather

You say that like it's a bad thing.

fatalvenom: I think it was ishkur who nailed it with his South Park OL post in the thread yesterday.

Trey and Matt understand Canada better than most people realize. And their portrayal of Canadian culture is spot-on:

Canada is full of polite, accommodating, eccentric flappy-headed people. Very nice and friendly.

However, there's always that ONE guy.......

Because I need a place for this...

The final NHL alternate points systems standings

1st, a note: I projected a minimum points number for each conference that would be necessary to make the playoffs this year. Because the average points total for the #8 seed in each conference in the shootout era was markedly different, the numbers in each conference was different. It was 53 pts for the East and 55 for the West. Well, the 8 seed in each conference ended up at 55 pts. Technically I was right in the East since the 9th place team (Winnipeg) ended up at 51 pts. And in the West, Columbus tied with Minnesota at 55 pts.

Forgive me for tooting my own horn for a bit.

Some bests and worsts of the season:

Most regulation wins: Pittsburgh- 31
Highest regulation win percentage: Chicago- .781 (25-7)

Most OT wins (non-SO games): Chicago and Columbus- 5 each (Chicago was 5-0)
Most games decided in OT: Columbus and Colorado- 8 (CBJ 5-3, COL 3-5)

Most Shootout games and wins: San Jose- 12 total, 8 wins
Most Shootout losses: New Jersey- 7 losses (2 wins)

Most OT losses (non-SO): Colorado and Florida- 5 (FLA 1-5)

Most regulation losses: Florida- 27

Fewest regulation wins: Florida, Nashville and Colorado- 11
Fewest OT (non-SO) wins: San Jose- 0-3
Fewest SO wins: Calgary and Toronto- 0 (CGY 0-3, TOR 0-5)

Total games decided in OT: 66 (35 in the West)
Total games decided in a shootout: 96 (55 in the West)

Comparison of points systems:

International 3 pt system- all 16 playoff teams are the same. Nine teams change positions, none of them division winners. Interestingly, the 4-5 matchups are the same (though flip home ice between LA and STL)

Revised 3 pt system- 14 of the 16 playoff teams make it. Division winners the same. San Jose drops out (too many shootouts) and Columbus comes in. Winnipeg and NY Islanders flip spots. (Note: for those who don't know, under this system last season; 15 of the 16 teams made it and the one that didn't lost on a tiebreaker since they couldn't take the very last game of the season to a shootout. That team? LA Kings)

Old NHL rules w/ties- See above, but with the exception that NYI drops to 10th and WPG goes to 7th. Oh, and Toronto wins the Northeast and the 2 seed.

(Thank god that's over)

fatalvenom:If Ishkur ever vacations in Palm Beach County anytime soon, his bar tab is paid.

For every one you buy him, I'll buy two... though one will frequently go to me for purposes of temporarily forgetting I'm a Leafs fan.

/Funny, I actually watch more hockey in Florida then I ever did back home

desertgeek: ten foiled hats: desertgeek: Well, his big thing is just outright attacking people. I've probably been his biggest target because I have the nerve to be a hockey fan in Phoenix, Arizona. You know, he's one of those guys...

I'm in Orlando.  Yes, I know the feeling.  (I hear enough of it down here.)

Yeah, but I actually have a NHL team here. That's what pisses him off.

I think it was ishkur who nailed it with his South Park OL post in the thread yesterday.

Farking nailed it.
