Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Only one of those scenarios is not plausable.  Our sun is not of the right type to ever go supernova.  It will burn out, of course, and it will destroy the entire solar system when it happens.  But human sill be long extinct before that happens.

Our biggest realistic fears right now are:
Yellowstone explodes.
A really BIG meteor hits the planet.
Something really big hits the moon and disrupts it's orbit.
The antarctic ice sheet collapses and melts.

All of those things are a genuine 100% possibility, and exaclty 0% of them are preventable.  Even a year's warning wouldn't be enough.  And all of them would imperil, if not destroy, human existence.
