Shorelinefarker: Britain, you used to have balls of steel. What happened?

Turns out, that "stiff upper lip" is a congenital birth defect prevalent in Britain through generations of inbreeding.

Oh. So that's a flapjack. I always thought flapjack was another name for a pancake. Learn something new everyday. I need to travel more.

A flapjack is a pancake in North America. In Britain it's what we'd call an oat bar.

I'm a flapjack, and I'm ok

Wait, what? How in the hell is that a "flapjack"?

In Reality, a pancake is generally not rigid enough to stand on edge - it's FLAPPY - hence FLAPjack.
In Her Majesty's Sillynesstime for Fabbylaggies, a flapjack need not be flappy; you just find a perfectly normal-named food ("oat bar") and give it a stupid name that bears no significance to any part of the food.

// and now someone comes in to tell me that oats have been known as "flappies" in England since the tyme of Groswingdon the Mildly Perturbed, and how could I not know that

That's why I like Australian English so much more than other variants. Instead of mixing up existing words, they come up with a new one. The object in question is probably called something like a Chazwalzal or Doogeriedee. When I hear a word like that, I know I have no idea what it is instead of having something incorrect come to mind.

So somebody gets poked in the eye with a triangular snack and they decide to...add a corner and make it a rectangle?
