Any baby that can write this note all by themselves should be able to look after themselves while the mom is doing a little shopping/drinking/hooking whatever.

BarkingUnicorn: Kiwis are a marvelous people.  This mom trusted strangers to call her if her baby was in distress, so she left her number on a note.  She wasn't hauled off to jail, although there may be a visit from child services.  If only Americans were so sane.

Well, it 10 yrs, the law will be "you can't leave a child alone for more than 30 secs or you get fined $10,000. This applies to all children under 26.
