(CNN)   Henrix, an English springer spaniel, was supposed to fly from Newark to Phoenix, gets sent to Ireland. Sounds like United really screwed the pooch on this one   ( divider line

When the airline realized the dog had been put on the wrong flight, immediate steps were taken to return Hendrix to his owner...While on the unexpected detour, Hendrix was walked and fed by United staff...United apologized and offered a full refund...Grant is happy to have her dog back, but wants United to punish the person responsible..."They should not have their job anymore, I mean, he's been on a plane for 24 hours."

If this were a normal airline story (the weekly "they destroyed my $20,000 instrument and I had to go on national news before they'd even talk to me" story, for example), and the airline had been giant dicks about everything and refused to be helpful, I might agree with the lady, but as it is, I think she's going overboard.  According to the story, United figured out something was wrong pretty quickly, immediately notified her, took extensive steps to make sure the dog was OK, and sent it back on another international flight in time to reach her pretty damn fast while offering a complete refund.  United did everything right (after the initial mistake, which statistically has to happen every once in a while), it doesn't seem that any serious or permanent harm was done, and she still wants some poor sap fired.

I do have simpathy for the dog (2 of my dogs would have had the time of their lives meeting all the new people, but the third would have been scared witless, and they'd all hate the flight).  The woman, on the other hand, comes off like kinda a biatch.  Not to mention I generally don't like people who crate their dogs as luggage for's a horrible thing to do in my opinion.  Leave them at home with friends or family or a dogsitter to take care of them.

Everyone just assumes it was the airline's fault. Doesn't anyone else think it odd that the dog managed to find it's way to Ireland just before St Patrick's day? The dog just might have had inside help.

the dog lived, which is better than United usually does.
