Rogue Surf: I know of many former alcoholics for whom "one drink is too many, and twenty are not enough" who now only imbibe cannabis and are much better persons (according to their spouses, kids, friends and family) not to mention the thousands or tens of thousands not spent annually at bars and on booze.

Just another bad habit. Swapping one drug for another doesn't combat the disease of addiction, it just exchanges one problem for another. Pot is still illegal in most of the US, and may be much more severely punished than a DUI.

The people you mentioned should do their loved ones a favor and reduce their likelihood of incarceration.
