This whole thing is retarded.....you don't need to have a wedding to get married in the US.  Getting married is a legal status change, you need to file the appropriate paperwork at the courthouse.

My wife picked up the paperwork.  We signed it at home.  She returned it.


Skyping or not would have no impact on it.

And?  If the couple was of legal age to marry, why would it matter that there was news over the wire that they had "run away"?  And if they were not both of legal age to marry, they should not have been able to even in the absence of such news.
