brap: Coming soon and frequently to a theater near you. From the makers that turned "Jack and The Beanstalk" into the butched-up cock rocker you weren't ashamed to take your quite possibly limp wristed and frankly gender confused son to see..RAMBI - A former Unites States Special Forces doe, alone in the woods. *gunshot* You drew first blood when you killed his mother... *silence followed by heavy metal riff*.... THEY DROVE HIM OVER THE EDGE...THEY DROVE HIM TO RESPOND WITH AN IMPROVISED VENGEFUL BLOODBATH OF HOOVES AND STEEL.RAMBI! We took the fairy out of another tale. THIS SPRING, PREPARE TO YER ASS THUMPED IN A TOTALLY HETEROSEXUAL WAY.
Farker Soze: What's with all these fairy tales turned into loud dumb action movies reminiscent of that crap movie Van Helsing lately? Jack, Hansel, Snow White, what's next? Little Pigs: Trinity? They just farked with the wrong ungulates! You blew our house down, we'll blow you away.
JosephFinn: Huh. No numbers for Stoker?
TheSelphie: JosephFinn: Huh. No numbers for Stoker?$158k in 7 theaters with a >$22k per theater average. Not bad. Will see it on video at the very least.
czetie: FTA: Maybe that really lousy Academy Awards show turned off America to the movies.Or maybe this was a really shiatty selection of movies... again? When Identity Thief, which was already a turd in the punchbowl last week, is still #2, you know something is very, very wrong. And I'm sure that there is a fascinating story to be told someday about how Jack burned through $200 mil and still ended up looking so bad. I was stunned by the trailer the first time I saw it: there isn't the slightest sense that the actors and the CG elements occupy the same physical space.
robsul82: Best part of 21 and Over was discovering a Gaslight Anthem song plays over the end credits. Stunk on ice otherwise. The Last Exorcism Part II did the same ice-related activity. Nothing near as good as Reverend Marcus' banana bread sermon.
B.L.Z. Bub: "Jack the Giant Slayer" is actually based on TWO folk tales, not just the beanstalk story. This is the one you might not have heard of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_the_Giant_Killer. Of course, even though I haven't seen the movie, I'm sure its connections to both tales are tenuous at best and there was a lot of rewriting. But it has Ewan MacGregor, so it's got that going for it. Despite topping the box office, though, I still smell a bomb. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being this year's "John Carter".
taxandspend: It has a budget of nearly $200 million and it debuted weaker than "John Carter." It already is this year's John Carter unless it can pull in "Ice Age" level overseas revenue.
TheSelphie: Last Exorcism 2 didn't bomb considering it already made back its budget ($8 mil vs a $5 mil budget). I'm sure we'll be seeing a part 3. It's the Saw principle: make annual cheap ass horror movie sequels and enough people WILL see them that you'll make a decent profit. I'm kind of shocked that they stopped with Saw when they did, as they kept making good money (last one was a production budget of $20 mil and it made over $136 mil worldwide).
fusillade762: The Last Exorcism IILike "The Neverending Story 2". And "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer".
if_i_really_have_to: taxandspend: It has a budget of nearly $200 million and it debuted weaker than "John Carter." It already is this year's John Carter unless it can pull in "Ice Age" level overseas revenue. The lead actor is pretty popular outside America as he starred in the UK version of Skins, which was widely popular in the colonies. So there'll probably be a sizeable market outside America just for girls who want to see HIM.He's probably just "that guy from X-Men: First Class" in America, if that.
Heffaloo: Capt. Sparkles:On a semi-related note: has anyone seen John Dies At the End yet? It's playing at one of the theaters in Columbus and I meant to catch it over the weekend but didn't get a chance to. I'm a little skeptical about how well it'll hold up from the book, but I'm holding on to some hope. Plus, Paul Giamatti's a pretty cool dude.I've seen it. It's a good little movie with a solid Don Coscarelli feel, but time and budget constraints made them cut too much of the source material. Giamatti is awesome, and so is Clancy Brown. The people I made watch it who had not read the book enjoyed it more that those who had.
