I saw him a few years ago and it was the most boring show I have ever been to.

Boring guitar playing is boring.

you must separate the man from the music
otherwise Chuck Berry would never sell any albums.
nor would Gary Glitter
Seen ec about a dozen times in the last 40 yrs. ,  shows ranged from average to unfarkingbelieveable

Clapton went on a drunken racist rant 36 years ago in 1976. Get over it; he did.

I doubt Clapton meant any denigration.

red5ish: Clapton went on a drunken racist rant 36 years ago in 1976. Get over it; he did.

I see no reason not to keep insulting him because of it, it might be different if he still wasn't a douchey white nationalist type that supports the far right British anti-immigrant party. I have no issue separating that stuff though, I still respect the music a douche like Ted Nugent or Dave Mustaine made, but I don't respect them as intelligent people.

Eric Clapton isn't aging at the same speed as the rest of us because he's trapped in a time dilation field.

Why do you think they call him "slow hand"

Skarekrough: For the sheer number of albums by Muddy, BB, Albert, Robert and other he has encouraged millions to check out he's really doing a sub-par job as a racist.

He's a selective racist. Or as long as they stay living in the states has has no issue with them.

FarkedOver: FlashHarry: FarkedOver: He is just a racist twit.

explain, please.

"I used to be into dope, now I'm into racism. It's much heavier, man. farking wogs, man. farking Saudis taking over London. Bastard wogs. Britain is becoming overcrowded and Enoch will stop it and send them all back. The black wogs and coons and Arabs and farking Jamaicans and farking (indecipherable) don't belong here, we don't want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don't want any black wogs and coons living here. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for white people, man. We are a white country. I don't want farking wogs living next to me with their standards. This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening to us, for fark's sake? We need to vote for Enoch Powell, he's a great man, speaking truth. Vote for Enoch, he's our man, he's on our side, he'll look after us. I want all of you here to vote for Enoch, support him, he's on our side. Enoch for Prime Minister! Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!"

Wow... I'm a music nerd. How did I miss this all these years?  As someone who perceived Eric Clapton as a gentleman, this is very disappointing.

You mean to tell me that some elitist geriatric over hyped relic with more money than brains expresses an opinion that is widely unpopular with the unwashed masses?  Color me shocked.

Clapton was a good guitarist about 40 years ago.  Today he would be kicked out of any Guitar Center for playing rehashed blues licks too damn loud.
2013-03-02 08:38:35 AM

Virtual Pariah: I don't give a shiat about his opinions outside of his guitar work, He could claim that immigrant mooselim Venusians have moved into his anus and are claiming squatters rights and my answer would be "Play Strange Brew, Guitar Monkey".

this is easily one of the best lines I've ever heard about EC.  Bravo.

neilbradley: Zerochance: neilbradley: Aaaaaannnd..... STILL don't care for the most overrated guitarist in the universe. No wait, that's Eddie Van Halen. Make Clapton #2...

Really?  I can maybe, sort of see how someone could think Clapton is overrated, but EVH?

Your favorite guitarist must be one of those ultra-obscure players that never perform in public because it "cheapens" their art, or you're way into 20-minute sweep-picking wank fests.

Not at all. No denying that EVH is a great guitar player, and also very fast. Just lacking in soul. Clapton's playing is for people on quaaludes. I don't think that David Gilmour would qualify as ultra-obscure. ;-)

I've never taken quaaludes(much less even seen one) and have been a Clapton fan since his days in the Yardbirds. And I don't apologize for it for one farking second. Thanks to him, I was introduced to guys like Buddy Guy and Albert King(I already knew who BB King and Robert Johnson were).
BTW, I consider Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb to be the greatest ever recorded. But that's just me; your mileage may vary.
