MithrandirBooga: Liquid Democracy?"Why's the rum gone?"
quatchi: "On Twitter I'm a militarist and a sexist," Schlömer says. "You're exposed to extremely hurtful things and you get very little reassurance. You're constantly bombarded with below-the-belt criticism, most of it anonymous."Ah, he begins to see the problem.Politics is a game of compromise.Anonymous internet discussion tend to bring out the worst in some people which is not conducive to achieving compromise.I've always rather likened it to some people who are perfectly fine and reasonable people IRL who become lead footed, abusive shiat-disturbers when they get behind a wheel of a car.The Pirate Party have gone adrift and the wind has gone out of their sails.Too bad I was hoping they might actually accomplish something.
BudTheSpud: In this age of information, it's the trolls and shiatposters who have the power. They dilute and distort any discussion into name-calling and partisan bickering./whats that? They're talking about repealing the Patriot Act again? Let's see what they think of feminism, abortion and gun rights!
Ed Willy: If someone could find a way for the internet to have decorum they would be the most worth recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize ever.
quickdraw: Gawd - it's worse than a WoW guild.

Why don't you go be subjugated to your oil-drilling buddies somewhere else?/remember the Greater Internet Farkwad Theory?

Ed Willy: This is the same reason the Occupy Movement failed as a long term political movement (that and people thinking the camps were the solution). The open democracy they had let individual members block (ie, Filibuster) a whole meeting. More often than not a productive discussion on a tangible action (supporting local unions in a demonstration, making a march to a political relevant location) was blocked by some raving fringe person who said the lack of inclusion of their small group in an unrelated discussion made the populist liberals worse than the bastard love-child of Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin.
