Sulu and Chekov are the worst. McCoy is awesome.

Sulu and Chekov need to have the head shapes flipped. Sulu is more long vertically and Chekov is more rounder.

Chekov actually looks more like Charlie from the "Charlie X" episode.

I can see where your coming from, but I think the Ferengi are clearly meant to be business-minded Americans. Archer even says to the first one he meets, after hearing about the Rules of Acquisition "Y'know. That kind of thinking nearly destroyed our civilization not too long ago."

They had Archer meet a Ferengi? How did that fit into canon?

Just about nothing in Enterprise fits into the canon. Which is a pity since it needs to be stuffed into one and then shot into oblivion.

Y'know, I was dismissive of Enterprise until recently and I've fallen for it. I like to think the 'canon irregularities' are things that are only obvious to us in hindsite. I'm on record in other threads recently explaining why.

Also: Tripp is the most fully realized character in all of ST.

Cross media design isn't really a new concept. I read Countdown. It fills in the gaps pretty well and it's sort of a "last hurrah" to the old universe, with many of the NG characters you love getting their dream jobs.

The show was actually great. I trashed it when it was on and watched later on Netflix, and I really wish I had watched when it was on... Maybe they wouldn't have canned it if it got ratings.

I've been trying to get into in on Netflix. It's been... difficult. I got to the "I didn't know space was going to be hard!" episode and I just stopped. Is there a list of episodes worth watching? I'd be willing to do that if I could skip the filler.

Canon went out the window in Voyager when they decided that the federation knew about the borg way before Q-Who - and that 7's parents went off in their cosmic winnebago looking for them. There is a discussion on one of the DVDs where the writers say "well this messes up canon" to which the Voyager showrunner said "screw canon, this is a good story"

It wasn't.

Anyway that probably marks the big people where Star Trek writers decided that they could deliberately break canon - rather than making mistakes as will happen from time to time.

There was no contact with the Borg before TNG, which lead to the Borg going back in time in an attempt to assimilate a less-advanced Earth. The wreckage of the borg sphere was reactivated by archeologists, and it created a mini-collective. Not so much a temporal ass-fark as Nero's arrival, but close.

They discussed that in the Pocket Book novels... I think the book The Final Reflection was the one that delved into Klingon fusions for contact with others vs the Imperial race.

Been years and years since I read the novels, got about 150 of them sitting in storage. Not sure if they are considered canon though. Good to see that this made its way to the TV audiences, since it was TV that created the inconsistencies in the first place.

This. Also there was a bit of canon violation before Voyager. Guinans were victims of the Borg. Guinan (among others) was rescued by the Enterprise B before Picard was even born (Star Trek Generations). But apparently all those refugees never bothered to tell the Federation about the Borg up until Q puts the Enterprise D in front of them.
