Day_Old_Dutchie: chapman: namegoeshere: No they won't. Do you think any of the officers involved will pay a penny of their own money for this? Their legal costs and any settlements will be paid by the department, ie the taxpayers. The first, practical change we can make to stop corruption is to make police officers and prosecutors personally liable for acts that are grossly negligent or worse. It'll never happen. There are too many goddamn empty-headed sheep out their that think cops should be trusted 100% and they should never be held liable when they screw up because "they put their life on the line every day".
skinink: If anything the women at least should be happy that the LAPD are such terrible shots that seven cops firing sixty rounds could not kill them. When I saw the movie "The Gauntlet" I thought "No way Clint Eastwood and Sandra Locke survive a hail of bullets being fired into their bus by cops!" Now I guess that movie was right. It's like watching Stormtroopers trying to shot straight.
lolpix: I hate how the news always leaves it at "non life threatening" wounds. There are a lot of life changing wounds that don't threaten your life.
Mrtraveler01: Brubold: MFAWG: beta_plus: Thank god we have public sector unions to prevent horrible things like this from happening and to ensure those trigger happy cops get justice./liberals need to stop preaching a culture of hateOh, 9 out of 10! Missing Obamacare and random caps, but top notch! And yet he's right. If we didn't have corrupt unions protecting corrupt cops they'd be out of jobs and we'd be far safer.LAPD is corrupt enough without the help of unions./nice try
Arn_Dee: Raharu: The officers who shot the mother and daughter have been put on paid administrative leave. From here.http://gawker.com/5983076/seven-days-later-the-killer-ex+cop-is-stil l- on-the-loosePAID LEAVE? FOR FARKING SHOOTING INNOCENT FARKING PEOPLE?
tekmo: I'm only surprised the LAPD didn't invent some crime to charge those women with.Surely, "operating a vehicle while police are edgy," or "refusal to die during lethal use of force" is a crime by now.
LordJiro: If someone is actually attempting to kill you out of nowhere, odds are that, even if you ARE carrying, you'll be dead before you can draw unless you're a professional quickdraw shooter. And that's assuming there's only one shooter.
iq_in_binary: BraveNewCheneyWorld: Mrtraveler01: BraveNewCheneyWorld: Christopher Dorner, a pro gun control, piers morgan/obama fanIs there a citation for this or are you just pulling stuff out of your ass? It's in Christopher Dorner's "manifesto". Maybe you should do a shred of research before acting like a jack ass.He also said he didn't vote because Huntsman didn't win the Republican Primary. So you're being either deliberately obtuse or you're incapable of finding the unedited manifesto, either way it doesn't do much to suggest you're capable of logical thought.
DS1970: If this isn't an argument for citizens arming themselves, I don't know what is.
ha-ha-guy: Lost Thought 00: By accepting the truck, they will be waiving their right to sue the department for any further damages, with the courts saying that the truck is sufficient compensationThe women have a lawyer. Unless this lawyer is like Quan and purposefully sandbagging cases to protect LAPD, no way he'll let them accept the truck
Bungles: I think one of the biggest difference with the USA and the rest of the Western world isn't the religiosity or the guns or political circus or the lack of social safety nets, but the nature of the police.No-one in the UK or France or Australia or Germany or Canada or New Zealand would think twice about going up to a policeman and asking for directions or just a chat. The police in the US just seem to be wired and scary and angry.
Mrtraveler01: So why didn't he vote for Obama then if he was a fan?
BraveNewCheneyWorld: he doesn't vote for people who he thinks won't win as many "non vote wasters" do.
Real Women Drink Akvavit: Mrtraveler01: Bontesla: Mrtraveler01: Bontesla: EdNortonsTwin: He's also a fanboy of George H Bush, and Joe Scarborough according to his manifesto. Not so sure his politics have all that much to do with his Captain Ahab persona.I feel like his political affiliation is probably the least relevant part of the story.I agree, but that doesn't stop a few nutjobs from trying to make this a political thing and get all whiny when they get called out on their BS.Now to the topic at hand...what kind of truck are they getting? The kind that comes with liability waiver? No personal responsibility from the LAPD.Do you also find the entire story kind of odd?A little.I miss the LA when it was just car chases on tv everyday.Ah, yes. The news chopper giving us the blow-by-blow of the chase from the air live from KABC-7 News' Eye in the Sky! . So important they'd interrupt regularly scheduled programming so you could watch it. Everyone knows Los Angelenos just LOVE to see car chases. Especially OJ's. Still kinda ticked they didn't just tap the back of the Bronco and spin it. I was watching something when they broke in with that stupid chase, dammit!/Betting on how long the chase would last was a neighborhood sport of sorts.//Might as well make the best of it and maybe a buck or two.

Maybe you should do a shred of research before acting like a jack ass.You mean the one that said he wanted Huntsman, and didn't vote for Obama? That manifesto?FTFManifestoMr. President, I haven't agreed with all of your decisions but of course I haven't agreed with all of your predecessors decisions. I think you've done a hell of a job with what you have been dealt and how you have managed it. I shed a tear the night you were initially elected President in 2008. I never thought that day would occur. A black man elected president in the U.S. in my lifetime. I cracked a smiled when you were re-elected in 2012 because I really didn't think you were going to pull that one off.Funny you left out this part:Before you start with your argument that you believe I would vote for Obama because he has the same skin color as me,fark you. I didn't vote in this last election as my choice of candidate, John Huntsman, didn't win the primary candidacy for his party.http://documents.latimes.com/christopher-dorner-manifesto/

Glancing Blow: Sixty rounds is not surprising. In a group, once one starts firing they all empty their guns. This would have made a nice diversion for a flanking attack.

Long Duck Dong's Aww-toe-moe-beeel: But, did they get the undercoating? That's gonna cost extra.
optikeye: Amazing that the cops mistook a 41yo white woman and a 71 yo white woman for a large black man...and then opened fire without any warning. The two women now say they had no warning before they were caught in a hail of bullets by officers, and it is remarkable that they survived.
BraveNewCheneyWorld: Cops are special people who are more responsible than regular citizens, that's why we should give up our guns and arm them will full military hardware! -This is what some people STILL believe.

optikeye: kmmontandon: And they'll whine and pull a persecution complex every step of the way, the f*ckers.WTF? The cops shot them without warning. And out of control, seriously could you mistake two women (ages 41, and 71) for one large black guy? If you want to hear whining...I'd bet the defense case for the cops is filled with that. We'll see. They shouldn't except a new truck they where attacked and shot...by cops without warning. If they except a new truck I'd bet it comes with strings attached as if it's all "cool" now.
doglover: "I do this not to appease a murderer. I do it to reassure the public that their police department is transparent and fair in all the things we do," the chief said in a statement.[latimesblogs.latimes.com image 580x378]Looks pretty transparent to me.
