Over 500 responses in the Deadspin thread and over 60 here and almost no responses from anyone who has ever made them for a living or at least got paid on a regular basis to make them?

Having done so 40 years ago in my mis-spent youth, I must say that the best ones are the freshest ones. Plain cake when they are cool enough to handle and raised when they are cool enough to glaze or coat with fine ground sugar (no powdered, please).  The best is the cinnamon rolls constructed from the leftover scraps of the raised dough. At the end of the graveyard shift those are the last ones made. Arriving at 7:30 in the morning at your girlfriend's bedside with a large coffee and a couple warm raised cinnamon rolls can get you a very friendly reception.

Custard is the only acceptable filling.

Not raspberry jam
Not lemon goo
And in the name of all that's holy, not white icing masquerading as custard.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

There contest over.

I would say how us Canadians are donut experts but there's too many Timmies that contradict that statement.
