Welp, that explains me, I guess. I've lived in 4 of those places.

And now I live in the sticks surrounded by sugar cane fields.

//no really. There's fire ants there that diesel won't kill.

"Offbeat" is last year's Hot Topic T-shirt and "Quirky" is now a Denny's Grand Slam.  A lot of great places have their own character that is totally unique.  If you want meet actual people who are interesting in places that have their own distinct culture stay away from any city on these lists. Try going out and exploring.

Well, I don't know what city is the weirdest, but I can tell you what the worst is:

Grand Rapids, MI.

What a miserable, festering a-hole in the ground this town is. I regret moving here more than anything in my life.

Everyone in this city is a moron. I hope it all burns.

Best part of the article is the Weeners.  Amandameezer is the epitome of hipster asshole, whining about how cool Portland USED to be, before all the posers moved in, and how much it sucks now.

It seems the people at Travel & Leisure have never been to West Virginia.

Rev. Skarekroe: That article is 22 pages long?  WTF?

Retirees have plenty of time to read every page.  They aren't in a big hurry.  As anyone stuck behind them in a line anywhere can vouch for.

"How did voters define offbeat? ... Other top 20 cities, such as Santa Fe and Providence, RI, have vibrant arts communities, ranking well in the survey for galleries, theater, and live music."

My, my. How incredibly strange and weird and unbecoming.

I'm guessing most Travel + Leisure survey participants are bright-white-tennis-shoe suburban types.
