What was wrong with Source Code? Plus, bonus points for being David Bowie's son.

Half the movie is going to be about mining, enchanting, skinning, etc.

I play WoW. Have since vanilla, played Warcraft 2 & 3 (came too late to the show for 1), but I just can't see myself going to a Warcraft movie. I can't possibly see how they would make it interesting enough. Unless maybe they give me mounts and battle pets and achieves for proving it, but they'll save all that for the people who buy the DVD and they'll put codes in the boxes for redemption.

karmachameleon: lilplatinum: karmachameleon: I played for 5 years.  Do the math on that if you want, and then state with a straight face that the subscription fee shouldn't be a big deal to anyone.

It's under a grand over 5 years, that is not a lot of money over that period of time.  You can spend that much in a month or two going to bars.   For the time/money entertainment value, MMOs are about the best bang for you buck around.

Dude.  A thousand dollars.  ON A GAME.  It was usually fun, true, but in hindsight I don't know what I was thinking.

I don't know how much you earn, but even at my low-end wage that would be <.5% of what I would be making over the next 5 years (assuming I never get a raise). A substantial amount, yes, but hardly a footnote in the grand scheme of things. If you enjoyed it during the time you played it, then I'd consider it money well spent.

I doubt the script will be anywhere as good as the Diary of Gamon entries crap I wrote or the training of a gnome priest.

/things you write while bored and on painkillers
//gave up WoW before Cataclysm, retired my affliction warlock Vodkamartini. Not missing much I think.

Darth_Lukecash: Mortal Kombat was entertainingly good. Not artistic, but fun.

Sure, but that's what I mean.  Any of these movies that any of us do like are more like guilty pleasures, not actually good movies.

There has been real talent attached to some of them too.  I think the flaw is inherent in the translation from game to movie.  Games have stories, but the narrative structure is nothing like a movie or a book.  It will take a hell of a clever writer to finally pull it off.

Starring Leroy Jenkins!?

I might pay to see that.

karmachameleon: Old enough to know better: Who're you guys kidding? This is gonna suck like every other videogame movie.

Yup.  There hasn't been one single movie based on a video game that has been any good.

And it's not like Hollywood hasn't been trying.  They've made dozens of movies based on video games, and every single last one, without exception, has ranged from terrible to just below average.

I'm not trolling or being sarcastic.  If you like "Tomb Raider" of "Final Fantasy", that's fine, but those are the <i>best</i> video game movies that Hollywood has had to offer.  That pretty much says it all.

Which doesn't mean Jones can't make the first good one.  Someone has to be first.  But given the general track record so far, I won't hold my breath.

Mortal Kombat was entertainingly good. Not artistic, but fun.

They made a couple of decent (in not aweful) Final Fantasy movies. I think they can pull it off.

That it's taken this long for Blizzard to agree to a director is good news for those of us who would like to see quality when it's finally released. Then again, Blizzard is the same company who signs off on the horrible, downright awful stories and voice acting within their own games.

Um, Source Code was farking great.  And it sidestepped the entire "This is just like Quantum Leap!" thing by having Scott Bakula in it.  And saying "Oh Boy."

Be interesting to see what movies Subby likes.

Subby is kind of a moron.  The mod who greened this epic fail of a troll attempt isn't far behind.

A movie with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes is an obvious artistic failure.
