rdu_voyager: Storm drains, not water mains, subby.

Actually, it's farking with the water mains as well. WARMcoldWARMcold is causing the already ancient pipes to break moreso that usual. We had a bunch of random school closings in our area today - a few for ice and the rest for water issues.

ecmoRandomNumbers: How do you people in the East know how to dress?

If we knew how to dress we'd be on the West coast.

Baltimore's city water infrastructure is very old--you hear about a huge water main break and learn the pipes were laid in the 1880s. There was one last fall that was a rupture in a 48-inch pipe. There was a huge river going down the street that was very impressive. 48 inches is some serious water volume.

Doesn't NYC have these two huge main water conduits into the city that they can't inspect or repair? If they shut the water off the things would collapse (again, very impressive 19th-century engineering!). They just are hoping they finish the 3rd one before then.

My heart goes to anyone who has to live knowing this or worse is looming over their head every day.
