Should I bring up the fact that the mobile phone in your pocket, the computer in your car, and the device you posted on are all by products of NASA technology? Or that NASA's return on investment is the greatest of all federal funding?

Is Subby a Luddite or just an asshead?

BalugaJoe: Only 3 more needed.

Interesting, I just loaded it and it says 5 more needed.

Oh - look more closely. I think you (and I) were looking at the wrong field. Now I see there's only 5 signatures (and most of them are Farkers).

/glad they increased the number of signatures needed. Shiat was getting out of hand for a while.

We have the technology to do this now?

Are you sure about that, subs?

You do realize that building incredibly high structures to not fall in on itself is pretty damn insane, right?

You also realize that it would be 50 miles high, right?

And where the hell was I?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you've got a long hurdle to overcome since the threshold is now 100k,  Subby.

A space elevator is a worthy goal and I agree more research dollars are needed. However, I'm unwilling to funnel the lion's share of limited NASA dollars into it just yet. I'd rather have research put into NEO detection and mitigation, which is woefully underfunded. Perhaps if you petitioned to increase NASA's budget as well, I would sign it. On second thought, I'll sign it on the off chance it will actually get somebody to look at NASA and respond.

/Cue the "Why are we exploring space when blah blah blah" crowd.
