Ah, the lights, the mistletoe, the smell of jet fuel, the howitzers decked with tinsel. I love the holidays.
2001-11-25 12:48:33 PM
Holiday Special, Free full body cavity search before departure. Get em while there hot.
2001-11-25 12:56:21 PM
why does the hero tag have an american flag behind it?

i feel cheated.
2001-11-25 01:00:13 PM
First terrorist hugger to blame this on Ashcroft and explain how we are now an evil facist police state that must be destroyed gets to suck my cock.
2001-11-25 01:12:36 PM
I've got a brilliant idea! How 'bout a nudist airline? I can't imagine anyone wanting to chance setting off a metal detector there knowing that security only has a couple options in deciding where they may be hiding something.
2001-11-25 01:27:44 PM
Rumor has it that France was thinking of taking over Miami International Airport. When the National Guard got wind of it, they rolled out their tanks. France saw the tanks and surrendered on the spot.

Madcharlie: What if the nudist passenger had a steel plate in his forehead? ha ha ha

i'm going to say this... the so-called "heightened security" is bullshiat. i'm a martial arts instructor, and inadvertantly (i swear this was not intentional) there was a martial arts weapon tucked in my carry on bag (which may i add is always full of trash hence why i didn't see the weapon) and i went right on thru security with it. it's a steel telescopic baton, expands to about 9 inches long.
2001-11-25 01:39:34 PM
Has any one ever been to MIA? I think it would be better if the tank was firing at the autos as they approached.
2001-11-25 01:51:41 PM

I had a 9 inch long 'weapon' in my possession too. It's a weapon of love though.
2001-11-25 02:01:52 PM
Putting military weapons and National Guard troops at airports is a bunch of window dressing for the rubes. Unless they think an invasion by an army is imminent, it just makes us look like a banana republic and doesn't add at all to security. The authorities must think we're a bunch of nitwits (justifiably, in all likelihood).
2001-11-25 02:04:20 PM
1. It's not a tank, it's a humvee.

2. The "machine guns" are M16a2 and M16a4 rifles.

3. Most media reporters could tell their ass from a hand grenade.

4. Most of these guardsmen would be dead meat if terrorists chose to engage them in a firefight. They're window dressing for the sheeple.

thanx, come again.
2001-11-25 02:11:59 PM
I dono if I'd put a hero tag on this. I mean sure atleast there's added security but all in all if you think about it it's pretty pitiful that this even has to happen.
2001-11-25 02:23:39 PM
Depends. I'd rather have National Guardsmen than Argenbright Security workers ... heh-heh-heh.

Although of course this raises important Constitutional questions.

2001-11-25 02:28:47 PM
The National Guard troops at California airports don't even have ammunition in their weapons. They just march around looking like fools. At least Argenbright personnel do something useful, even if sometimes incompetently.
2001-11-25 02:39:07 PM
Awww - so many cheap shots and so few catches.

It almost makes me lose my faith in Farkdom.

> At the entrance to MIA, motorists were greeted by the extraordinary sight of
> a National Guardsman atop a military tank with his gun drawn -- a clear hint
> of the security measures they were about to encounter.

Back in the bad old days of Boot Camp, The DIs had a punishment for people who used the term "gun" instead of "rifle". Teh made us stand out in the company area and scream out "This is my rifle and this is my gun - one is for pleasure and the other for fun!"

I'm sure that some of the older Farkers know what I'm talking about. ;-)

> One passenger was even asked to take off his shoes and
> walk through the metal detector barefoot.
> His shoes passed through separately.

His shoes passed through the metal detector separately?!?

I'm sorry, but my mind just threw up - *there* is a guy who needs something more than Dr Scholl can give him!
2001-11-25 02:48:45 PM
Don't you always wear steel toed boots on airplanes?
2001-11-25 03:06:45 PM

First off, the only time I'm gonna hug a Terr is when I do a rear strangle hold takedown (or whatever else works) and slip my Fairebane (sorry, never could spell worth a dam) into his or her kidney.

[Sidebar: forget what the telly and the movies show you - if you try to cut a throat, then
1. they bleed profusely - all over your nice BDUs, and blood is hard to wash out!
2. they also gurgle a lot - sometimes rather loudly...
3. strange noises int he night tend to attract attention, and if you're snooping and pooping, you don't wan't to attract attention - trust me!

"And that's another Combat Tip from the Ol' Ranger"

Sorry Fb, but I've just lost it and need to get to sleep - but I do think that Ashcroft is dangerous and I think that Bush needs to put a tighter leash on him.

Later we talk, nicht wahr?

This whole security thing has become the latest expression of unthinking political correctness for, as one farker put it, the sheeple.

Confiscating nail clippers is beyond ridiculous, it's insane, why not just pull out the passengers long fingernails, they are probably capable of causing much greater injury.

We lost more than 2 building, 3 airplanes and 5000 +/- people. We lost our ability to reason and behave rationally. You know maybe the terrorists really have won after all.
2001-11-25 04:36:11 PM
I knew there was a reason for my dislike.
Anyone know why this is a hero tag? Are we going to post a hero tag if the city of Arkansas spends an extra 500k on the police force?

Besides, logic here. They hijack the planes in the air. That tank isn't going to do much but sit pretty.

Ohh, and Bobbie, very rarely do Americans, or people, practice rational thought.
2001-11-25 04:58:14 PM
Fuzzmosis: I agree, at least in recent times rational thought has been a casualty in most societies. I guess that's what causes my cynicism lately. I'm old enough to remember when at least some rational thought and behaviors prevailed in our society.

Maybe that's why Older People reminisce about the "old days". Perhaps the society is decaying rapidly.
2001-11-25 05:04:20 PM
Now wouldn't it be funny if the terrorists jumped the guy in the tank and used the tank to run down the entire airport? The more weapons you have, the more likely someone is going to use them against you. Personally, I'm not worried about the military at the airports ,I'm worried about all those weapons around that some deranged Metallica shirt-wearing, acne riddled, psychopathic high-school 'loner' might get his hands on and make Columbine look like a picnic.

Jason Arbrushki of Petit Falls, Utah reported that he grabbed the AK-47 and opened fire because he felt threatened in the "new military states of America". His father, gun collector Murray Arbrushki was reportedly shocked at his sons irresponsible use of automatic weapons at the airport. "Damned kid knows we only shoot at minorities and the government" Mr. Arbrushki added, "there is just no excuse for this and that kid is losing his Soldier of Fortune magazines as soon as we get home".
2001-11-25 05:16:48 PM
Ahhhhhhh... that was wonderful Jraxis. Please wipe my man-butter from your face now.
2001-11-25 05:25:14 PM
The point of the tank and the Guardsmen at airports is to put up a facade of alertness. The point is to make terrorists re-think further plans, and if doing so scares of even one terrorist plot then its worth it. There was a huge flap about west coast bridges being a target and nothing happened and everyone said it was a worthless measure. But how do you know that because of the announcement terrorists stopped plans because of the increased security. It's not causing much trouble, so why get incensed over it. Stop the bullshiat about this being the start of some fascist coup, I have yet to hear of reports of Guardsmen attacking commuters. I find it sad that people are automatically assuming that everyone in the government is in some big conspiracy to take away everyones rights, that the only reason they got in to politics was to create a facist state. People in the military and politicians are just normal people, no better and no worse.

"But that's just the opinion of a crypto-facist media/corporate/government controlled drone/patriot robot. Because if I don't agree with your ideals I'm EVIL."
2001-11-25 05:26:57 PM

There is a price for FREEDOM.....

2001-11-25 05:37:13 PM
fb: you keep forgeting that you don't have any "man butter" (That is unless you borrowed some from your boyfriend jello boy).

Seems odd that you would have anything to say about it anyway, since you don't even live here with the rest of us (thank goodness). Your comments are so bitter and hate filled that it only proves how awfull you feel you were treated as a child. Is it just an attention getting ploy, are you still grasping for some type of love from mommy and daddy?

What the hell good does having a tank stationed there do anyway, it just scares the good folks, the terrorists are going to sneak there shiat in, not have it strapped to the roof of the car, and confiscating toenail clippers????? What the fark? Sounds like the soldiers are more worried about us keeping ourselves well groomed than protecting us from the terrorists.

But then everyone has heard the comment "good enough for government work"
2001-11-25 05:43:22 PM
Dress shoes tend to have a bit of metal in the soles to keep them stiff and "dressy". I stopped wearing my khaki's and loafers through the detectors and switched to jeans and sneakers.
2001-11-25 06:08:06 PM

You keep talking to me like that and there's no way I'm going to let you suck it. Now be a good troll and buzz off.
2001-11-25 06:17:04 PM
I attracted the flamage of Fb-. My life is complete.
2001-11-25 06:21:04 PM
Sorry , but I'm here for the long haul.

fb: You may not like what I have to say, but then again, most people think you are the troll, fb. If you had a real cock, you would be in the middle east with the rest of the soldiers, fighting the terrorists, instead of pandering your hate here on this board and hiding like a scared biatch in the Virgin Islands.

Skwidd: Yes, I can deduce a lot about people by there posts. Some are decent human beings, but fb likes to gripe about tree huggers and people that are anti big brother, but do you think he would be man enough to stand up for what he believes, (no) he would cry if he had to actually stand up for himself or his country.
2001-11-25 07:07:37 PM
"Welcome to Miami international airport. If you have brown skin, please report to the nearist security checkpoint so that we may detain, search you and hook jumper cables to your nads. If you complain and say it's unconstitutional, you are a terrorist-hugger."
2001-11-25 07:41:10 PM

Typical facist. Suppress my opinion because I'm not a soldier.
2001-11-25 07:49:59 PM
I am not suppressing anything fb, I'm just telling you that you should stop crying about everyone elses opinion and stand up for yourself and your country.

Proves how craven you are, you will talk and biatch about it, but won't get off of your shiat stained ass to do something about it, you would prefer that others go out and fight a war that you advocate instead of doing it yourself. But you don't have what it takes (balls) all you've got is a big mouth, and (as I said) would cry if you were forced to stand up for the cause.
2001-11-25 08:22:42 PM
Speaking from the perspective of someone who's just old enough to join the military (with the delayed-entry program):

Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who sacrifice freedom for security get neither." (Correct me if I'm wrong; someone else said it was "deserve.") Seeing as Bush has just founded the American Gestapo Department of Homeland Security, we are quickly becoming Franklin's model of such imprudent people. What do we need the DHS for? Last time I checked, NSA stood for National Security Agency. And what's the FBI for? And to think Republicans bashed the Democrats' plan to make airport security personnel federal employees because "it would create more bureaucracy." And in the meantime the government is passing bills that make it legal to put wiretaps on your phone and listen in without a search warrant.

"It's the PRICE of FREEDOM!" you cry. But no. The price of freedom is the sweat and blood of young men and women who fight for it, not dispense it willy-nilly for "security."
2001-11-25 09:07:38 PM
Fb- glad to see i made your honor roll. still haven't decided btw.

ok i served, i vote and i try to stay informed. anyone watch "jaywalking" on leno? those folks are who these measures are aimed at. and the really scary part is THEY vote too.
2001-11-25 09:14:36 PM

Can't he be both?
2001-11-25 09:19:07 PM
...And their going neck and neck to the finish. It's FB!
No, wait its soup goblin! No, its a tie! Soup goblin and FB share first prize at the 2001 special olympics!
2001-11-25 09:23:59 PM
JimiJimi: I find it hard to see Fb- as "winning" or even managing to tie with Soupgoblin.

And as for that Special Olympics saying... it doesn't make any sense. There are people in the SO without being retarded. There are physical handicaps, too. So it would make much more sense -and perhaps be funnier- if it was changed to "Winning an argument on the Internet is like winning the Special Olympics: Even if you do, there's still something wrong with you."
2001-11-25 09:24:19 PM
That way it applies to just about everyone >=D
2001-11-25 09:42:50 PM
Bobbie: Read a newspaper lately? Your +/-5,000 figure is more than 2k off now. Just FYI.
2001-11-25 10:02:21 PM
Soupgoblin you are right and he probably is. Cid_Highwind has a good point, actually two of them. my problem is that i read EVERYTHING that's posted, knowing that some of it is upsetting. my basic problem with Fb- is that i can't bring myself to think he really is like that in person, and if not why here?
2001-11-25 11:17:07 PM
Why the tank?
2001-11-26 12:03:35 AM
I'm glad security is tighter. Who wants a one-way trip into a skyscraper? The only ones who should be whining about this are any terrorists!

Let's face it, before 9/11 we were pretty complacent and everything. I view the attacks as a huge wake-up call. There are some sick bastards out there and we can't assume something terrible always happens to the other guy--remember that you're always "the other person" to someone else.
2001-11-26 12:34:13 AM
This is cool for one reason:
9/11 I had this conversation:
Me: "Police state a-coming. I'll bet there be tanks in the streets before xmas."
Friend: "Hah, wanna bet?"

The terrorist may not have won, but I'm $50 richer. : )
2001-11-26 11:27:24 AM
2001-11-26 02:39:42 PM
Madleaf, please don't make me hurt you.

Sure security was shiat, but it's just an illusion. Pretty hard to be completely secure. "If a man truly wants you dead, all you need to decide is if you want your body burnt or buried". It may prevent some attacks, but not all. And you still are "the other guy".
2001-11-26 06:30:25 PM
Why are y'all biatchin??? Some of us drive past a Humvee and a manned machine gun nest on the way to work every goddamned day... Get over it. Sure, you might think its "window dressing", but believe me, these guys are very serious.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit of personal freedom for increased security. Quitcherbiatchin. Be thankful there aren't armored personnel carriers on the streetcorners, you dont have to carry around a chemical warfare mask wherever you go, and you're not worried about a helicopter gunship strafing the street as you walk to your corner grocery store. Many people around the world face that on a daily basis. And you cant handle a humvee with an armed troop in front of the freaking airport??

Americans as a whole forget that their freedoms aren't naturally inherent, they have been given to them by the blood, sweat and tears of 225 years of their sons and daughters, fathers and grandfathers who swore to defend their freedoms, "against all enemies, foreign and domestic". Their freedoms are NOT given to them on a silver platter, they are given to each American on the bloodstained bodies of the military members throughout this great nation's history who have put the needs of their country before their own lives.

Think everyone needs to read the oath every military member recites when they join; and maybe it'll enlighten you as to what goes on behind the scenes. I say 'its about farking time' that there is at least a sense of 'we're trying to make this better'.

Americans are lax in their personal security as a whole. Many of us take Anti-terrorism training on a yearly basis. Maybe we should start teaching those types of classes out in the real world; it might stop these terrorist actions before they start. If someone (like the guys on the plane that went down in PA) realized 'this is wierd' and reacted, we might not have had to deal with this situation.
