Seriously, would it have killed them to make the USB a little more obviously asymmetric, like firewire? It's especially annoying when you're buried in a rack with very little light trying to hook stuff up.

Also, fark Logitech for abandoning bluetooth. Not really relevant, just had to say it.

Form factor of USB doesn't bother me. The fact that there's like 18 different goddamn usb types is what bothers me.

Let's see:

USB A
USB B
Mini USB
Micro USB
Micro B USB
Apple's Older stuff
Apple's newer stuff.
Samsungs older stuff.
HTC's older "half trapezoid" USB.

Having to rotate the plug 720 degrees does not prove that the cable exists in 4-diminension space. It proves that USB plugs are fermions, since they have a quantum spin value of one-half.

Digital Communist: If you don't see any problem with the standard USB form factor then I sincerely hope you are not an engineer.


There's an easy fix, just paint half the plug and half the jack. Then you can see which way it goes.

Most of the time. I have 2 cables and chargers from 2 different vendors that go in opposite ways.

The people that designed USB completely failed Poka-Yoke design.

Actually the symbol on the connector is supposed to line up with the symbol on the host. From what I remember of the spec though, that's a "should" and not a "must". Hence the farked up world in which we live.

Great on the HIV but POO on the USB. It was designed so that it CAN BE attempted upside down. Good design means either it's quite obvious which way is correct or (even better) insert it either way and it just works.

The bottom of the USB plug has the crack in it. That works if the socket isn't in upside-down.
